Lancaster 6  - Williamsville North 2

Here in Buffalo the boys are still grinding it out in some tough cold and windy conditions.  In a clash of two AA powers in Section 6, Williamsville North traveled to Lancaster to face a tough lineup who proved by days end why they’re one of the top in the area.

Senior University at Buffalo commit Andrew White got the nod for the Spartans while senior Griffin Obrien got the ball for Lancaster.  Though White was able to flash some impressive velocity he had trouble locating right away which got him in early trouble.  Senior Canisius College Commit Joe Prezioso led the game off with a double deep to right center.  After sophomore Leugim Castillo got on with an infield single, Junior Ben Closson got the first RBI of the game with a single of his own.  With bases loaded a walk and HBP then plated two more.   Junior Alex Damiani sealed the inning with an RBI single giving Lancaster a strong 4-0 start after 1.  After a quick defensive inning Lancaster did not waste any time putting two more up in the second inning.  Castillo led off with a single and stolen bag right away.  Junior Ben Monti came through with an RBI single on a liner to right field.  The bats seem to go quiet for both teams for much of the day after the second.  Senior Dean Penman came in and was able to keep the Lancaster lineup off balance with a mix of off speed pitches.  Senior Loukas Bechakas then came in for the Spartans and showed some impressive velocity while commanding an arsenal of 3 quality pitches.

Lancaster’s Griffin Obrien did a great job of keeping the Spartan hitters off balance early on before bringing in Senior Joe Prezioso to finish the second half of the game.  The Lancaster staff was able to keep North off the board until the 7th inning.  In the 7th the Spartan lineup got a fire under them when they were finally able to string a few hits together.  Unfortunately it was too little too late as Lancaster got the win 6-2.

Though both of these teams are strong throughout their lineups, Lancaster showed why they are being seen as one of the premier teams in Section 6 this year.  With good senior led pitching, and a deep young lineup they make for a tough matchup for any team.  Led by senior shortstop/pitcher Joe Prezioso, Lancaster is set to make a strong run in class AA this year.  Along with their veterans, Lancaster also has a bright future with young names like Closson, Monti, and Castillo sticking around.   Williamsville North has shown to be a little streaky but is certainly not a team to sleep on.  Their lineup also has some strong senior leadership and some bright young talent who may just pull some surprise upsets come playoff time.
