Horace Greeley 8 - New Rochelle 5

The Horace Greeley bats provided enough early cushion to hold off a late push from New Rochelle on Monday, hammering out 13 hits in an 8-5 win at home. Six different players scored a run and six had at least one RBI, as the Quakers (12-5) continue to score at a high rate.

Greeley scored in each of the first four innings. Mack Lauder and Adam Quine had RBI doubles in the first inning, and Nick Perretti hit a solo homer with one out in the second. Josh Small, Joe Raguso and Satchel Schultz also had RBI hits to help the Quakers jump out to an 8-2 lead. They also went 7 for 7 on stolen base attempts, with Small responsible for three of them.

The Huguenots (6-11) scored a run in the third on Quincy Mack’s RBI and another in the fourth on Jared Almonte’s two-out RBI single, but they did most of their damage in the seventh. Carmine Giordano led off with a single and scored on another RBI double from Mack. Two more runs crossed on two Greeley errors, cutting the deficit to 8-5. The Quakers called on senior reliever Griffen Dresner with one out and one on, who recorded the final two outs without allowing the runner to advance.

Greeley right-hander Chris DiGiuglielmo (4 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 4 BB, 3 HBP, 3 K, 66 pitches, 32 strikes) and New Ro right-hander Brad Heller (4 IP, 8 R, 7 ER, 11 H, 0 BB, 0 K, 79 pitches, 54 strikes) both came out to start the fifth inning.
