Dan Cevette
Director, New York
Febuary 19th PBR New York made its way to the Greater New York City area - Elmsford, NY for a preseason identification event at the very neat and clean - Game On 13. The smoke as finally settled, and the pitching reports are final. Here's a look at the arms from Feb. 19th.
Steven Boscia, RHP, Archbishop Stepinac HS, NY (2016)
Boscia stands 5-foot-11, 165-pounds with a solidly build frame. On the mound there's projection from a loose arm. He starts with a side-step, hands stay close to body. High knee-lift, shoulder separation, arm-action was long and back towards 2B, fast hand speed, throws from a high-3/4 slot with a fastball sitting 85-86 mph - arm side run. He showed the ability to spin a curveball, next level arm.
Justin Adams, RHP, Westlake HS, NY (2016)
Adams stands 5-foot-10, 165-pounds with a solid frame to add onto. On the mound he uses a side-step, balanced rhythm, high-leg lift, hands go high. Shoulders stay lined up with target, hips closed, long stride, arm action is down and clean, throws from an over-the-top slot, head leans towards first-base line. Fastball has projection, 83 mph with downward slope, curveball shows some spin, early hump. Really like his projectablilty at the next-level.
Nick Mazone, RHP, Bethlehem HS, NY (2016)
Mazone stands 6-foot-4, 195-pounds with a great pitchers body. On the mound he rushes his delivery a touch - but that can be fixed, knee lift is low and quick. Arm action is back and clean, fastball comes out of his high-3/4 slot with plenty of projection, sitting 82 mph now. Shows a feel for his off-speed, finishes over his front side. Keep an eye on Mazone.
John Adimari, RHP, Greenwich HS, (CT) (2016)
Adimari stands 5-foot-10, 155-pounds with a slender build, ability to grow. On the mound he uses a side-step, good rhythm, knee lift above belt, hands high. Arm action is down, slight back towards 2B, clean, hips stay closed, good shoulder separation, to a long stride. He throws from a high-3/4 slot with his fastball sitting 81 mph, late action. Solid three pitch mix, good control, definitely shows signs of more velocity on the right arm-program.
Brendan Duane, Westlake HS, NY (2015)
Duane stands 6-foot-0, 195-pounds with a solid frame. On the mound he uses a slight side-step, good balance with a calm delivery. Shoulders stay on target, hips open just slightly too soon, arm action is back and clean, throws from an over-the-top slot, sound mechanically. Fastball was at 77 mph with arm-side run, might see that number a little higher this spring, durable shoulders. Unsigned senior looking to find the right fit.
Justin Jimenez, RHP, Salesian HS, NY (2016)
Jimenez stands 5-foot-9, 140-pounds with a smaller frame. On the mound he uses fast movements, side-step, hands very high, knee lift just above the belt. Dives off his back side, shoulders stay lined up, arm action is back and fluid, hips stay closed, throws from a mid-3/4 slot with fastball sitting 76 mph. Mechanics are sound, finishes over his front side.
Ryan Ragone, RHP, Archbishop Stepinac HS, NY (2018)
Ragone stands 6-foot-0, 193-pounds with a big pitchers frame. He uses a side-step, brings his knee up and back over the rubber, belt high. Breaks his hands at the peak of his delivery, powers off back side, shoulder separation, long-back towards 2B arm action, fastball sat 76 mph from a high-3/4 arm slot, quick hands speed. Very good over his knee finish. Ragone shows signs of throwing harder.
Daniel Lotito, LHP, White Plains HS, NY (2016)
Lotito stands 5-foot-9, 160-pounds with a stronger build. From the mound he uses a side-step, controlled delivery, high knee lift, high hands. Powers off back leg, shoulders on target, arm action is back and clean, throws from a high-3/4 slot, fastball was consistently at 75 mph - arm side tail. Shows the ability to throw off-speed in and around the zone.
Thomas Hunter, LHP, Salesian HS, NY (2016)
Hunter stands 5-foot-11, 150-pounds with a slender build. From the mound he starts with a wide setup, high knee lift, hands stay high. Tall and fall off back side, straight back to SS arm action, hips open up slightly early. Throws from a mid-3/4 slot, fastball sits 74 mph.
Joseph Ragone, RHP, Archbishop Stepinac, NY (2018)
Ragone stands 5-foot-9, 140-pounds with an athletic body. On the mound he uses a side-step, balanced delivery, belt knee lift, hands above knee, slightly tucked over the rubber. Stays tall on his back side, shoulder separation, arm action is back and clean, throws from a high-3/4 slot, fastball was 72 mph. Developing his pitches still but shows command for a freshman.
Thomas Cosentino, LHP, Westlake HS, NY (2016)
Cosentino stands 6-foot-2, 190-pounds with an athletic, ideal pitchers frame. He uses a side-step, hands start high before he drives forward, shows a smooth, controlled delivery, separates hands high. Arm action is long, free and loose, shoulders stay even. His hips stay closed through his stride. Throws from a high-3/4 slot, fastball 71-72 mph with run. Change up 63, curveball stands 59-61 with 11/5 shape.
Gabriel Figueroa, RHP, Croton Harmon HS, NY (2017)
Figueroa stands 6-foot-3, 215-pounds with a bigger frame. On the mound he uses a side step, higher knee lift, hands high. Tall on back side, arm action is down and long, throws from a mid-3/4 slot, 71 mph fastball, lands upright, needs to focus on getting out more over his front side.
Dylan Dasgupta, RHP, New Rochelle HS, NY (2016)
Dasgupta stands 5-foot-7, 130-pounds with a smaller frame. On the mound he uses a side-step, high knee lift, hands high. As he drives forward he opens his front side a touch too early, arm action is down back and long, throws from an over-the-top-slot, finishes nicely over his front side. Fastball velocity was 68 mph.
Timothy Moore, RHP, Ossining HS, NY (2016)
Moore stands 5-foot-10, 275-pounds. On the mound he uses a side-step, high leg lift, hands high. As he drive home his arm action is back and longer, throws from an over-the-top slot, very upright, fastball touching 68 mph. Working on finishes more over the rubber will help with control and keep ball down.
