2015 State Rank: 3

PBR sat down with Danny Maynard to take a deeper look inside his high-level game. Here's what we learned.
PBR: Tell us where you grew up, when did you start playing baseball, and who were your baseball influences and why?
Maynard: I grew up in Burnt Hills and where I played tee ball for the first time when I was 6 years old. My greatest influences were, and still are my family. They support me in everything I do and are my biggest fans.
PBR: You have been receiving a lot of positive press lately. How does it feel?
Maynard: I have and I'm trying to keep a level head and just continue to work hard every day to achieve my goal.
PBR: You picked Notre Dame last winter. Tell us who were in your top three, your best offers, and why ND?
Maynard: My top were Notre Dame, Siena, and Albany. I chose Notre Dame because that is the school where I felt most at home. It is my home away from home. They also play in the ACC which is the best baseball conference in the country. I will see a lot of great competition which will prepare me for the future.
PBR: We know your very talented behind the dish. Tell us all about your catching style, strengths and weaknesses?
Maynard: I'm an athletic catcher who moves quick behind the plate and who has control of the defense. I think my strengths are my arm strength, quickness, leadership, and my knowledge of pitch calling. Some things I think I need to work on are my blocking and knowing when and when not to try to pick off runners.
PBR: Your ranked No. 3 New York by Prep Baseball Report (PBR). How does that feel considering the size and talent in the state?
Maynard: I feel very honored to be ranked that high with the wealth of talent that New York State has. There are so many great players I'm very proud to be ranked at the top of the list.
PBR: What's your training look like this winter? Goals for the spring?
Maynard: This winter I'm really focusing on my flexibility and my core strength. I think those things are vital for the catching position. I'm also working on my swing mechanics and my foot work behind the plate. My goals for the spring are to go out and show how hard I've worked this winter.
PBR: Who is the best player you will see this spring? Best team?
Maynard: The best player I will see is Garrett Whitley by far. He's a fun player to watch. The best team will be Shenendehowa. They have a lot of good players returning from last year and very experienced coaching staff.
PBR: Tell us something about yourself others don't know but would like to know.
Maynard: My favorite hobby is fishing. I've loved fishing since I can remember and it's something that I do when I need to relax or need a break.
Scouting Report
+ Danny Maynard C (Burnt Hills HS, NY (2015) stands 5-foot-9 and is built like a running back. The Notre Dame commit has power from both behind the plate and at it. At the plate he has a compact, powerful swing with lots of carry to both gaps. Behind the dish he has plus instincts defensively and a sub 2 pop time with a quick clean release. Very good prospect to follow this spring.
