Bayport-Blue Point HS took on Mount Sinai today at Medford Complex – site of PBR NY’s ‘Clash On The Island’ Aug. 18-19th this summer. Bayport a hitting powerhouse stayed in control the whole game as they cruised past Mount Sinai. P.J. Weeks was on the mound for Bayport and carved his way through the line up from the first to the seventh. Surrendering only two hits, no walks, and three Strikeouts.
The runs parade started in the top of the first as Dan Campanelli steps up with runners on and hits a ground ball that scores the first run of the game. Heading in the bottom of the second Weeks has an easy 1-2-3 inning. In the top of the second Luke Olsson leads off with a base hit. Next hitter ground out to the pitcher and Mount Sinai’s Bannano throws the ball into center field. Runners on first and second no outs. Scott Schultz hits an RBI base hit. Score now 2-0. Weeks again has a great inning as three up and three down. Heading into the third innig a walk and an error puts runners on first and third. A fielder’s choice scores another run - 3-0. Heading into the fourth inning Sal Geraci lead-off with a single and quickly steals second. An infield single puts runners on first and second. Dan Camapnelli strikes again with a RBI single. Next hitter Dylan Rooney gets a base hit making it bases loaded. Luke Olsson with a hit already singles up the middle scoring Geraci. A fielder’s choice scores another run.
With the score now 10-0 Weeks seems to be in command as he gives up a base hit then quickly picks the runner off. Later in the sixth Sal Geraci with an RBI single. Dan Campanelli steps up with bases loaded and rips a single scoring 2 more. A sac fly adds one more followed Scott Schultz RBI double. The Phantoms score 2 more in the seventh. With the final score 17-0 Bayport closes it out with the strong offensive outing and great pitching from P.J. Weeks.
