Baldwinsville Vs. Syracuse: Game Recap

Baldwinsville 2 - Syracuse 1

Our Empire State high school baseball coverage landed in Syracuse to watch Baldwinsville take on No. 23 Syracuse. Syracuse rolled out No. 1 in New York’s 2016 Rankings LHP, Jeff Belge – who displays prime-time stuff from a big, strong build. Baldwinsville called on 2015, RHP, Ben Webb to toe the rubber, and he didn’t disappoint.

Webb worked five solid innings throwing 15 first-pitch-strikes facing 24 total Syracuse hitters. Webb won’t blow you away with his fastball, but it’s well located and changes eye levels keeping the hitters off balance. His curveball was around the strike zone all night keeping the hitters honest. He cruised through his first three innings of work striking out two and keeping Syracuse off the board. He would allow one run through five innings of work, scattering two hits, one walk.

Belge has upper level, lock-down stuff and showed that for the most part during his outing – scattering two hits over four innings of work, throwing 11-14 first pitch strikes, punching out seven – Command was a major issue for the southpaw near his end giving the Bees several free base-runners. Both runs Belge gave up were unearned – one coming from a delayed steal where Catcher, 2016, Bo Nesci threw to second-base allowing the runner at third to score. The other run came from a single hit to RF that was misplayed allowing a run to cross the plate. Those two runs would prove to be all Baldwinsville would need. Frank Mayosky, RHP, 2017 came in relief of Webb tossing two hit-less innings – striking out one.

Baldwinsville improves their record 4-0 in 2015 while No. 23 Syracuse falls to 2-2 on the season and likely dropping out of the Power Rankings next week. Baldwinsville plays FM Friday, which should be another CNY gem to watch.

Both teams displayed several athletes – Be sure to check out our New York Scout Blog (Updated every Monday), which consists of measurable stats and scouting reports from last night’s contest.
