2015 HS Team Preview: Olean
March 23, 2015
Dan Cevette
Director, New York
As the High School baseball season quickly approaches, PBR NY will be previewing teams across the state over the next month. We will also be out scouting the High School season providing NY with the most in-depth amateur baseball coverage possible. To do this we have hired nine scouts, spread across the entire state to give players the platform they deserve to be seen.
High School Team: Olean
Class: A, Section VI
Head Coach: Matt Threehouse
Last Years Record: 16-3
Top Returners:
John Zamites-OF-2015
Jake Cavana-SS-2016
Evan Threehouse-RHP/OF-2016
Garrett Boldt-OF/RHP/2B-2017
Key Loss From 2014:
Luke Hennessy
Biggest Matchup This Season:
Fredonia
Coach Threehouse’s Outlook For 2015:
Olean HS should have a strong pitching staff and the ability to drive in some run support. A few key defensive positions need to be filled by the new additions to the team from an undefeated JV squad from 2014.
PBR’s Take:
Olean may be a smaller school hidden in the western side of New York – but the talent this team has is impressive. We have seen all of these guys and they will give opposing teams a lot of issues on both sides of the ball. Look for Freshman Dylan Vincent, a recent PBR New York 1st Team All-Underclassmen to really make an impact. He’s 84-85 off the mound with a high ceiling. Sophomore Garrett Boldt is the real deal (Also a 1st Team All-Underclassmen). Runs like a deer, above average arm and we have had him up to 85 mph off the bump. Junior Jake Cavana is a pretty raw athlete with some playable skills up the middle, solid arm. Evan Threehouse is a player we like a lot, saw him a week ago 86-88 mph off the mound – expect big things from him this spring and this summer. The old-man of the group, John Zamites is an unsigned senior we really like. Smooth athlete with above average speed, average arm and can swing it. Olean HS will be a tough team to beat this season – no question.
