Ramapo defeats Wayne Valley in N1G3 Quarterfinals

By TJ Hunt FRANKLIN LAKES -- Ramapo uses timely hitting and tough pitching for a victory over Wayne Valley in the North 1 Group 3 State Tournament yesterday, 6-2. Ramapo jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning, and did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.

Lead off man 2B Frankie Aiello (Rowan) walked and 2019 SS KC Hunt singled to right, moving Aiello to third, and scored on senior CF Greg Latushko’s sac fly. Senior first baseman and Babson commit Matt Valente then doubled to right center - moving Hunt to third. Both runners scored on Ramapo starting pitcher AJ Ferrara’s single, making it 3-0 Raiders after one.
Ferrara then went to work on the mound, getting out of four total two-runner jams in six innings. Wayne Valley scored their lone run off Ferrara in the third. Senior SS Alex Kokos (Rowan) singled and moved to second on Kevin Woll’s single. After a groundout, Jake Blumenstyk singled in Kokos, before Ferrara got the next two in order.
The junior righty went six innings, allowing one earned and scattering seven hits. He struck out six batters and walked two.
The Raiders added one in the third on an Alex Pazos sac fly, and two in the fifth on a Latushko home run to deep center.
2nd seeded Ramapo advances to the North 1 Group 3 Sectional Semifinals, when the will host 6th seeded Montville on Tuesday.
The other Sectional Semifinals will feature Northern Highlands and Pascack Valley.
