The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi has released its first edition of the Class of 2018 Rankings after its scouting staff has tracked down the top emerging talent at high school games, tournaments and showcases. Here is a look at the top five prospects on the initial list.

Claiming the top spot is Mississippi State recruit, RHP/SS JT Ginn (Brandon HS, MS). Ginn is a treat to watch with an electric arsenal on the mound. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-hander exploded onto the scene this summer as he consistently pitched 93-97 mph in his performance at the Tournament of Stars. The strong, athletic frame and power stuff, added to the ability to play shortstop at the next level makes Ginn a highly coveted commodity heading into the 2018 draft.

A Mississippi recruit, OF Joe Gray (Hattiesburg HS, MS) checks in at No. 2 as the top position player in Mississippi’s 2018 class. Gray is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and has shown high-level athleticism and a prototypical frame. Gray continues to show bat speed and raw power on the national stage, and will undoubtedly be heavily scouted by major league teams throughout the next 11 months.

IF Drew Bianco (Oxford HS, MS), a Louisiana State recruit, checks in at No. 3. The right-handed hitting middle infielder, projects more as a second baseman or outfielder and has shown quality bat speed, consistently hitting against some of the best arms the country has to offer.

2018 RHP Chance Denson (West Lauderdale HS, MS) is No. 4 and the top uncommitted player in Mississippi’s 2018 class. With a projectable frame, Denson has continued to show quality arm strength, pitching at 88-92 mph and getting up to 94 mph, coupled with a quality breaking ball at 72-74 mph. Denson did struggle to command the zone in the spring,  but has put up strong performances recently.

Rounding out the top five is RHP Brandon Smith (Richland HS, MS), a Mississippi State recruit. Smith has a projectable frame and room for added strength. He pitches at 86-91 mph with easy effort and command to both sides of the plate. He also shows a 72-75 mph breaking ball with solid depth.
