Unsigned Senior Spotlight: OF/RHP Jordan Smith (Westminster)

Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Jordan Smith (Westminster) is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound OF/RHP with a 4.1 GPA and a 31 ACT.  He has received interest from Murray St, Truman State, Covenant College, Valporaiso, and Lipscomb.  He has even had a few conversations with Harvard, but Smith is still undecided about his college choice.

Smith excels on the baseball field as well as in the classroom. He has won the state championship in both his sophomore and junior seasons.  As a sophomore he batted .390 and as a junior he batted .290 with a .409 on-base percentage.  He scored 27 runs and drove in 13 last season for the Wildcats. On the mound as a junior, he was 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA in 18 2/3 innings pitched.

This fall, Smith has been working to improve his game and earn his third-straight state championship.  "I have been training for pitching with Brain Delunas this fall and winter. I have seen a velocity jump this fall since starting the program and hope to progress even more," Smith says.

Smith has feel for three pitches, including a fastball with sink. He also showed a solid curveball with a 12-to-6 shape that flashes a late break, and a changeup that had arm side run and sink.  Defensively, Smith moves with athleticism, and is quick to the ball.  Offensively, Smith has good rhythm at the plate and uses a short, compact swing spraying the ball to all fields.

Last summer, he played for the St. Louis Prospects coached by Jeff Reed and Andy Benes.
