On Sunday, October 30, Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Top Unsigned Prospect Showcase at Hoover Field in Wichita, Kansas.  Nearly 50 players from the 2018 and 2017 classes participated. 

Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, velos, running times and video.  College recruiters can now update their ScoutPlus dashboard accordingly.  And players can take advantage of the ProspectPlus dashboard.

Missouri Middle Infielders

Cam Been, 2B/SS, Rockwood Summit (MO), 2018
Been is a 6-foot 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.18 60 and a 4.56 home to first.  He has a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open stance, short stride, loads mostly in hands, hands manage the barrel, gap-to-gap approach. On the infield, 79 mph exit velo, short over the top release, active footwork, clean transfer, soft hands, mostly accurate throws.

Michael Burke, 2B, Holland Hall (OK), 2017
A 6-foot, 175-pound athletic build. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the cage, flat approach. Hits from an open, athletic stance, some rhythm in the hands, big leg kick for timing, short to the ball, high, rotational finish, very quick hands, exit velo of 87 mph. Smooth runner, 6.83 60, one of the fastest times of the event. Defensively, in the outfield, good actions, some stiffness, high-3/4 arm slot with some carry and accuracy, 82 mph. On the infield, shows some quickness, flashes improved footwork, low-3/4 slot, 72 mph.

Kansas Middle Infielders

Quintin Ausemus, 2B/SS, Girard (KS), 2017
Ausemus is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.49 60 and a 4.65 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, short in line stride, some hand load, level bath path through contact, quick bat speed, mostly middle to opposite field contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, high three quarters release, 76 mph positional velo, fields ball in athletic position, momentum after catch, fluid footwork working with exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Bryce Boomsma, 2B/3B, Wichita Heights (KS), 2018
Boomsa is a 5-foot-7 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas 2018 class. He ran a 7.17 60 and a 4.35 home-to-first.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, short stride, simple and repeatable swing, consistent line drives to the middle and opposite field in batting practice.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, quick catch and throw with momentum through the catch, high three quarters release, athletic footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Austin Chen, SS, Blue Valley West (KS), 2018
Chen is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.26 60 and a 4.59 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, short stride, no wasted movement in load, quick hands, consistent line drives during batting practice mostly to the middle of the cage.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, fluid actions with hands and feet in sync, field ball in position ready to throw, quick exchange, mostly accurate throws, high three quarters release. 

Eric Escamilla, SS, Wichita North (KS), 2017
Escamilla is a 5-foot-10 168-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.13 60 and a 4.18 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH exit velos. At the plate, open stance with short line stride, smooth lower half load, minimal hand movements, consistent gap-to-gap line drives during batting practice. On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, clean exchange, active feet, momentum through the catch. 

Mason Hartman, SS, Maize (KS), 2017
Hartman is a 5-foot-10 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.06 60 and a 4.22 home-to-first, one of the fastest RHH times.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, minimal hand load, level bat path, mostly pull side contact during batting practice. On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, works around the ball with fluid footwork, fields ball in positon ready to throw, soft hands, mostly accurate throws,

Corbin Lill, SS, Clearwater (KS), 2018
Lill is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.90 60, one of the fastest times of the day, and a 4.12 home to first, one of the top times of the day.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open, smooth and repeatable rhythm with hands walking away from stride, works inside the ball, mostly line drives to the middle of the cage during batting practice, flat contact. On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, loose high three quarters release, quick feet works with transfer, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Zavier Morin, SS, Gardner-Edgerton (KS), 2018
Morin is a 6-foot-1 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.41 60 and a 4.56 home-to-first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load in lower half, minimal hand movement, swing produced hard line drives up the middle in hitting evaluations. On the infield, short high three quarters arm slot, 80 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the day, quick transfer with quick release, aggressive feet, soft hands, momentum through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Brendan Ryan, SS, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2018
Ryan is a 5-foot-11 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.98 60, one of the fastest times of the day, and a 4.12 home-to-first, one of the top LHH times of the day. He has an 89 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH exit velos. At the plate, starts loaded in back side, smooth rhythm, short in line stride, level swing, consistent hard contact gap-to-gap during batting practice, feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the day, athletic actions, quick and loose high three quarters arm action, feet aggressive to the ball, plays through the catch, mostly accurate throws, flashing back spin carry.

Jakob Shields, 2B/SS, Maize (KS), 2017
Shields is a 6-foot 160-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.12 60 and a 4.14 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load, short stride, gap-to-gap approach with middle to pull side line drives.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork, hands and feet in sync, mostly accurate throws, quick transfer.
