The younger brother of Tate and Luke Matheny, Jacob is the only one to play the same position as their father—Cardinals manager Mike Matheny. The youngest Matheny has a quick catch and release behind the plate, making accurate throws with solid receiving ability and quick footwork. Offensively, he shows some power to his pull side with a little length to his swing, but makes consistent, solid contact producing line drives. His swing stays on the ball for a long time. He is just beginning to fill out his 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame.
