Preseason Preview: Helias Catholic
March 11, 2013
Helias Catholic put up an impressive 22-4 record in 2012, and looks to continue their success in 2013 in a district where they should contend for a title. Returning seven talented players from a team that made it to the state quarterfinals in 2012, this is the year Helias could make another deep postseason run.
Senior CF/RHP Trevor Schnieders posted a .385 batting average with 27 RBIs last season, to lead the Crusader offense and should do again this season. Schnieders will be joined on offense by seniors INF/RHP Cole Distler (.367, 20 RBI, 29 runs scored) who will wreak havoc on the base paths and 1B/DH Lane Caldwell (.373 batting average, 22 Hits in 2012). Also look for senior 2B Joe Reinkemeyer (.300 batting average, 15 RBIs in 2012) to be big a contributor on offense. Juniors who should contribute include C Garrett Buschjost and INF/RHP Brock Gerstner.
