Player Spotlight: C/2B Ben Nobs (CBC, 2015)

Ben Nobs (CBC, 2015) is an uncommitted C/2B that is succeeding on the field an in the classroom. The 5-foot-10 180-pound switching hitting catcher had an 88 exit velo from the right side at the Unsigned Senior Showcase on November 8. Nobs also recorded pop times between 2.03 and 2.12. He ran a 7.10 60 and got down the line in 4.40-seconds. Not only did he showcase his abilities behind the plate, but showed range and athleticism on the infield as well, posting an 80 mph velo from shortstop.
Nobs is preparing for his senior season for one of the most talented teams in the Missouri Class 5, Christian Brothers. Although his focus is baseball year round, Nobs is succeeding in the classroom as well, sporting a 32 ACT and a 3.5 GPA. Nobs is still undecided on his major, but is looking to combine his academics with baseball at the college level.
Below is an inside look on the recruiting process for Ben Nobs.
PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?
Nobs: I have been talking to several Ivy League schools, Atlantic Coast Schools, Midwest area schools, and some St. Louis area schools.
PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?
Nobs: I have visited Duke, Stanford, Miami of Ohio, UCM, Fontbonne, FIU, SIUE, and Illinois State. I will be visiting additional schools in December, and January.
PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
Nobs: I would like to attend a top academic institution, particularly in Mathematics, Business, or Actuarial Science, with an excellent baseball program
PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?
Nobs: My junior year for the Rawlings Tigers 17u Black went very well. My batting statistics were .422/.483/.549. I spent most of my time behind the plate, but also played some MIF and OF. My team did well in a number of tournaments, making it to Sunday regularly.
PBR: What are you goals for your senior season? Name some players that will play a key role for CBC in 2015.
Nobs: My personal goal is to be the best consistent player I can be. I hope to put up big numbers and help lead the team into the postseason. Some key players for CBC this year will be; Matt Vierling, Blake Charlton, Stephen Haring, Cole Miller, and Mike Million.
PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?
Nobs: I have played for the Rawlings Tigers for the past 3 seasons, however, this summer I will be playing with the St. Louis Diamondbacks.
PBR: Do you play any other sports?
Nobs: I wrestled Varsity freshman and sophomore year, I stopped wrestling because I chose to focus on baseball year round.
PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?
Nobs: I received a 32 on the ACT, and have a 3.5 GPA.
