Prep Baseball Report Minnesota
Parker Holmstrom, RHP, Farmington, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
HOLMSTROM: I chose Winona State because they very interested in me and said I would most likely be able to have a spot on the team as a freshman. They have a strong winning record. The players were great when I went to visit and I shared some common interests with them. They have the major I was looking for. Winona is close to home and a great area.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
HOLMSTROM: St. Cloud State University, Augustana College, and St. Johns Universtiy.
PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
HOLMSTROM: Coach Reilly came to our Gopher Classic game where I started against Oakdale. I kept in contact with him and then went down there to pitch for Coach Poock and Coach O’Brien. I talked to them a bit, but mostly kept in touch with Coach Reilly.
PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
HOLMSTROM: Depending on how I grow until next fall I might red-shirt. But with the work I’m doing with Project Baseball; I will most likely fight for a spot where needed on the on the team.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
HOLMSTROM: My father has always pushed me to work hard, but my coach, Dan Sattler, has helped the most throughout the past four years with the Saints and Project Baseball.
PBR: What have you worked on/ improved since last year?
HOLMSTROM: I’ve gotten stronger and increased my velocity. I’ve worked on locating my off-speed pitches and throwing my changeup for strikes, and have developed a slider. Sattler has also helped me with my mechanics.
PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Minnesota?
HOLMSTROM: Tyler Hanson from Burnsville. I pitched against him my sophomore year of legion.
PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.
HOLMSTROM: Especially if you’re from a smaller school that is not as recognized as most, get your name out and go to local showcases to show your talents.
