Position: LHP
Class: 2016
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 185-pounds
High School: The Blake School
PBR Rank: #26 in MN 2016 Class

Evaluation: 6-foot-4, 185-pound left-handed pitcher. Tall athletic frame. Will continue to add strength. Athletic actions on mound with ability to control running game and field position. Solid balance point and lands closed with good direction to plate. Long stride inhibits extension out and over front leg in release. One piece arm action that still produces fastballs in the 83-86 mph range; topping out at 87 mph. Shows ability to leverage ball down on hitter. Is stiff at times throwing breaking ball and changeup. Stays around the zone with 3 pitches. Considerable upside with body and athleticism and will benefit from instruction/ development in college. Very high academic profile.

PBR: Why did you choose Dartmouth University?
STOLT: Dartmouth was a great fit academically and athletically. The Ivy League education will challenge me in the classroom. On the baseball side of things, I was very impressed with their program. They take baseball very seriously and I’m excited to be part of their program. In addition, the size felt right and I liked campus.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
STOLT: I was considering a couple other Ivy League schools along with a handful of other D1 and D3 schools on both the East and West coast.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
STOLT: Dartmouth first saw me at a Headfirst Honor-Roll camp in Jupiter, FL the fall of my junior year. They saw me twice after that at the Stanford Camp and their own camp in Hanover. The first time they saw me I was put on a list but not necessarily at the top. At Stanford I threw well and that really set everything in motion.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
STOLT: Deciding is a relief, especially since my peers are going through the college process, however I did enjoy the process. Talking to coaches and getting national exposure was very fun.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
STOLT: I have to put education first. I wanted a school that would challenge me and prepare me for the future. Although this significantly narrowed the schools I was looking at, Dartmouth fit the bill and their strong baseball program was the icing on the cake.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
STOLT: My dad, undoubtedly, got me to where I am today. Although he didn’t play serious baseball himself, his support through the process has been extraordinary. Growing up, he’d play catch with me every night after dinner. During high school baseball, he supported my baseball financially and always pushed me to be better. In regards to recruiting, he gave me the mindset that I could go anywhere I want. I cannot be more blessed receiving the support he’s given me.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

STOLT: The recruiting process can be tough. Finding the right camps to attend was definitely one of the difficulties. However, at one of my first showcases, a coach essentially said, “You think a coach doesn’t know a Division 1 player when he sees them? You don’t need to hit a homerun every at bat”. I took this mindset into every camp with me. Trying to do more than you’re capable of causes a lot of problems. As cliché as it sounds, just doing the best that I could do and letting the rest take care of itself really helped me relax and let the process take me where it would.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
STOLT: Obviously playing time will be earned. That said, I’m coming in with a recruiting class of at least 2 other LHP’s. So, I’m excited to compete with them to earn my role.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
STOLT: Two come to mind. Going to state with my high school team, Blake, and winning legion state with Wayzata in 2015.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
STOLT: I give credit to the whole Eden Prairie lineup. I know I will need to battle up and down their batting order to have a chance of being successful against them.
