Q&A With Century College Commit: Jackson Buelow
February 4, 2015
Jackson Buelow, SS/OF, Highland Park, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
BUELOW: I chose Century College for a couple reasons. One was how successful they have been in the past. Another one is being able to get in and play right away. I won't have to sit for a year or two like I would most likely have to do at a 4 year school.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
BUELOW: I was also considering UW- Stout, Saint Mary's and Upper Iowa University.
PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
BUELOW: They first saw me at a showcase I did at Century. Soon after that they sent me a text telling me they wanted me to attend their baseball informational meeting. I really liked what Coach Kotila had to say and when we talked one-on-one, Coach knew a lot about me and had a game plan for how he was going to utilize my skill set. I was very impressed.
PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
BUELOW: I have been told I will be able to come in right away and get a lot of playing time as a starting shortstop and will also be looked at as a pitcher.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
BUELOW: My dad for sure. He's the one that first got me into it as a little kid. He coached me in my little league days and was never too busy to work with me whenever I needed his help.
PBR: What have you worked on/ improved since last year?
BUELOW: I have worked a lot on fielding at shortstop. I have also been following a weight lifting program to improve my overall strength which will help with hitting.
PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Minnesota?
BUELOW: The toughest player I have faced in Minnesota is Matt Fiedler. He was a senior when I was a sophomore on varsity. I remember seeing how good he was and how quickly he could change the game with one play. Matt now plays for the University of Minnesota.
PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.
BUELOW: I thought the process was stressful at times but also very fun. Some advice I would give to others is that everyone is going to have an opinion - you should go with your gut and pick the school that is right for you.
