Spotlight Game of the Day- prior lake vs. lakeville north

LAKEVILLE, Minn.—Prior Lake used a four-run second inning to propel themselves past Lakeville North on the road Monday, 5-3.

The Lakers managed the big second inning thanks to five hits in the frame. Jacob Hitz and Nick Raddatz led off the inning with singles before Jason Peter brought them both home with a single and the help of a fielding error.

The damage didn’t end there, though. Another error and an RBI single by Ryan McDonald made the score 4-0 in favor of Prior Lake by the time the big inning ended.

The Panthers’ bats responded well in the bottom of the second. Michael Dooney hit an RBI double and Kaden Tousignant brought him in to score later in the inning with an RBI single.

Prior Lake continued the offensive barrage in the top of the third. Peter hit another RBI single with two outs to make the score 5-2.

Lakeville North threatened to immediately claw back in the bottom of the third. They loaded the bases with nobody out after the first three batters of the inning hit a single, walked, and got hit by a pitch respectively. However, Prior Lake pitcher Lawson Zenner managed to escape the jam unscathed by forcing a pop out and two groundouts.

The Panthers drew a run closer in the bottom of the fifth. Nate Klehr hit an RBI single through the hole on the right side of the infield to cut the lead to 5-3.

A comeback was not to be, though. The Panthers were unable to get much going in the sixth and seventh innings off of Prior Lake pitcher Lucas Pumper, who closed the door in the final 2.1 innings of the game.

Zenner pitched 4.2 innings with two earned runs on six hits, three walks and one strikeout to get the win. Pumper allowed just two hits and issued one walk while striking out one during his time on the mound.

Billy Riach took the loss for Lakeville North. He pitched five innings and surrendered four earned runs on seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts. He was relieved by Jake Peterson, who pitched two innings and allowed two hits and struck out two.

McDonald, Peter, and Garrett Gueltzow all led the Prior Lake offense with two hits apiece. Nick Juaire went 2-for-3 for Lakeville North.

The win improved Prior Lake’s record to 6-2, while Lakeville North fell to 6-3 on the year.
