Prep Baseball Report's MN Unsigned Senior Showcase took place on Sunday, August 21, 2016. The event was held at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in St. Paul, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota, Wisconsin, South & North Dakota from the 2017 class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple colleges in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff and UNW-St. Paul Head Coach Dave Hieb for such a great event.
There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Unsigned Senior Showcase; we have broken down the individual statistics below.
As we drill down into the statistics:
+ 11 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 19 players recorded 84+ mph exit velocities
+ 9 players recorded 78+ mph infield throws
+ 12 players recorded 78+ mph outfield throws
+ 9 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 3 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 26 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

INFIELD EVALUATIONS
Riley Ahern, RHP/3B, Holy Angels, 2017
6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.45 runner. Open stance, aggressive swinger, inconsistent stride with collapse at contact, line drive swing plane, mid/pull approach, 86 mph exit velocity. Shows usable hands and feet, needs to work through baseball, accurate arm to bag, 81 mph arm strength.
Cole Albers, SS/RHP, Champlin Park, 2017
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.38 runner. Open stance, easy load and stride, short to contact, with extension through baseball, line drive approach and works gap to gap, 84 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet defensively, above avg. actions, fields deep in stance occasionally, loose easy actions, fields with confidence, carry and accuracy to bag with 83 mph arm strength.
Tanner Berwald, 3B/RHP, St. Croix Lutheran, 2017
6-foot-3, 225-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.99 runner. Crouched upper half, leg kick trigger, leans over plate at contact, restricted bat path, mid/pull approach with line drive and ground ball contact, 84 mph exit velocity. Solid glove and feet, avg. range, tends to funnel underneath body, quick release on throws, accurate arm to bag with 78 mph arm strength.
Caleb Carlson, 3B/RHP, Bemidji, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.39 runner. Square stance with slight load, minimal use of lower half with straight legs, shows ability to use whole field, ground ball and line drive contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Usable glove with solid range, heavier feet and avg. actions, solid carry and accuracy on throws from short ¾ arm slot. 76 mph arm strength.
Conner Cress, SS/RHP, Simley, 2017
5-foot-10, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.88 runner. Open stance, strides to square, creates bat speed, hands stay close to body with minimal extension through contact, flashes consistent hard contact with mid/pull approach, 76 mph exit velocity. Solid actions, clean exchange with quick release, occasional tall fielding position with flat glove position, solid carry and accuracy to bag, 78 mph arm strength.
Jensen Erickson, 2B, Maple Grove, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.21 runner. Spread stance with short stride, hitchy load, flat path to contact, line drive and ground ball contact with mid/away approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Heavier feet, usable glove, stops at fielding position, sinking action on throws to bag with 70 mph arm strength.
Isaac Esch, SS, Mounds Park Academy, 2017
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.39 runner. Inconsistent load and stride effects timing, wider stance, double tap trigger, flat swing plane, ground ball contact to middle of field, 81 mph exit velocity. Plays down to up well, easy actions, soft glove with quick release, follows throws across, 72 mph arm strength.
Sean Flaherty, RHP/SS, Lakeville North, 2017
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.19 runner. Preset hands with easy stride, collapses back elbow into uphill swing plane, short path, lacks extension through zone, gap to gap approach with solid pop in bat, 84 mph exit velocity. Above avg. arm with accuracy, plays flat footed with late glove presentation, avg. feet and hands, 83 mph arm strength.
Liam Franken, 2B, Cannon Falls, 2017
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.4 runner. High hand setup, body load, good direction, solid pull contact, pulls off occasionally with stiffer finish, 79 mph exit velocity. Shows solid feet and glove in field, avg. range and quickness, long release from low elbow arm slot, 72 mph arm strength.
James Green, RHP/3B, St. Francis, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Preset hands, body load, avg. use of lower half, occasional hard contact, works middle of field, ground ball and line drive contact, 84 mph exit velocity. Solid footwork, fields deep and funnels underneath body, solid carry and accuracy from long release, 81 mph arm strength.
Brock Hansen, 3B, Chanhassen, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.68 runner. Loads into lower slot, double tap trigger, limited extension through zone, flashes hard line drive contact to mid/pull side of field, 74 mph exit velocity. Fields flat footed with avg. glove, one-piece arm action, plays with heavier feet, 69 mph arm strength.
Jake Hendricks, 3B, Waconia, 2017
6-foot, 215-pound left-handed hitting third baseman. 7.75 runner. Shows strength in bat, mid/pull approach, active hands and stride, deep load, mid/pull approach, 91 mph exit velocity. Shows soft glove, fields out front, avg. footwork and range, stiffer arm action, sinking action on throws, 76 mph arm strength.
Erik Holloman, SS, Mounds View, 2017
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.28 runner. Easy load and stride, keeps hands inside baseball, stays down and through at contact, gap to gap approach with consistent solid line drive contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Has sure hands, quick feet, looks athletic in field, and has above avg. carry and accuracy on throws across diamond. 81 mph arm strength.
Karl Jackson, 1B, DeLaSalle, 2017
6-foot-4, 200-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.52 runner. Flashes present strength in bat, tall setup, some hand rhythm, clean path, lift through contact, mid/pull approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Fields well at position, solid foot work around bag, ability to receive throws across, long arm action with accuracy, 74 mph arm strength.
Austin Lenhardt, 3B/RHP, Winona, 2017
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.02 runner. Good rhythm in box, body load, clean swing path, flashes hard contact to pull side of field, works gap to gap well, 77 mph exit velocity. Usable glove, avg. quickness and range, stiff one piece arm action, 72 mph arm strength.
Brandon Mehlhop, 2B, New Ulm, 2017
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.31 runner. Square stance, flat swing plane, stiff actions in swing, avg. pop in bat, 68 mph exit velocity. Shows soft/sure hands in field, mid ¾ arm slot, sinking action to bag, 69 mph arm strength.
Kelly Obryan, 2B/RHP, Colome (SD), 2017
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.13 runner. Active load and stride, loose hands and creates bat speed, balls jumps off bat well, pull pop with line drive and fly ball contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Raw athletic actions, good glove and reactions, solid accuracy to bag, 74 mph arm strength.
Jonathan Olson, 3B/C, Coon Rapids, 2017
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting infielder and catcher. 7.19 runner. Easy load, shows rhythm and clean bat path, consistent solid contact, mid/pull approach producing line drives and ground balls, 81 mph exit velocity. Easy actions, sure hands, avg. footwork, stops feet after release, solid accuracy and carry to bag, 74 mph arm strength across infield. Good direction and momentum through plate, stays down and through on release, clean exchange with quick release, 73 mph arm strength with 2.2-2.34 pop times. Above avg. blocker, is quick behind plate, smooth actions, shows ability to receive to both sides of plate.
Samuel Peterson, 2B, Aitkin, 2017
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.47 runner. Short to contact, good extension through baseball, shows ability to use whole field, solid pop in bat, 83 mph exit velocity. Late glove presentation, sure hands, quick release, short clean arm action, accurate to bag, 75 mph arm strength.
Will Rog, 1B, Totino-Grace, 2017
6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 7.84 runner. Easy load and stride, stays short to contact, solid extension through contact, spray fly ball contact across field with above avg. pop, 86 mph exit velocity. Solid fielder with sure hands, adequate range, accurate arm, ability to receive around bag, 73 mph arm strength.
Robert Saltzman, 1B, Madison West (WI), 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 7.9 runner. Square stance, strides slightly across body, stiff actions in box, ground ball and fly ball contact, 67 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, adequate range, avg. actions, one piece arm action with short release, 62 mph arm strength.
Matt Shaw, SS/RHP, Hopkins, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.44 runner. Tall open stance, strides to square, avg. use of lower half, stays inside baseball, consistent line drive contact, gap to gap approach, 80 mph exit velocity. Solid actions and athleticism in field, above avg. glove, works out front- up and through baseball, some extra glove pats and movement, shows appropriate footwork, clean arm action with accuracy and carry to bag, 81 mph arm strength.
Jack Sperry, 1B, Rochester Lourdes, 2017
6-foot-5, 150-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.57 runner. Tall stance, short stride, leans back at contact, bat exits zone early, ground ball contact, 58 mph exit velocity. Usable glove, avg. actions, needs to improve footwork around bag, low arm slot with short release, 62 mph arm strength.
Maxwell Spitzer, 1B, St. Francis, 2017
5-foot-11, 245-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 8.4 runner. Slightly open stance with leg kick trigger, slight hitch in hand load, aggressive swinger with good extension and lift through contact, gap to gap approach with consistent line drive contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, quicker feet, good footwork around bag, comfortable at bag receiving, short clean arm action, 66 mph arm strength.
Joel Thimsen, 3B, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.33 runner. Taller stance, longer stride, slight arm bar in load, aggressive swing with quick hands, solid extension through contact, gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Solid actions in field, sure hands, adequate range, avg. accuracy and carry with clean arm action, 76 mph arm strength.
Darius Uditsky, 1B/RHP, Holy Family, 2017
6-foot-3, 230-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.18 runner. Tall stance, knee to knee trigger, stays connected and is short to contact, solid extension through baseball, hard mid/pull contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, solid arm across, avg. quickness and range for position, solid receiver around bag, 75 mph arm strength.
Jackson Uner, 3B/RHP, Hill Murray, 2017
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Open stance, long stride, arm bar in load, consistent solid contact, uphill bat path through zone, 82 mph exit velocity. One of top infielders at event; shows above avg. actions, range, and sure hands. Clean arm action with accuracy and carry to bag, 82 mph arm strength.
Quin Viktora, 1B/LHP, Champlin Park, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.84 runner. One of better bats at event. Slightly open stance with controlled leg kick trigger, clean bath path, quiet head through contact, mid/pull approach with rhythm in swing, above avg. contact with hard line drives, 85 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, clean exchanges with quick release, accurate to bag, moves well around bag, 71 mph arm strength.
Lane Vugteveen, 1B, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-2, 225-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 8.25 runner. Narrow stance, balanced stride, some rhythm in hands, easy clean bat path through zone, above avg. pop in bat with gap to gap approach, line drive and loft power to pull side, 84 mph exit velocity. Usable hands, fields deep in stance, solid footwork, avg. arm with short release on throws, 70 mph arm strength.
Dillon Whittaker, RHP/3B, Waconia, 2017
6-foot-3, 215-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.45 runner. Tall stance, preset hands and load, inline stride to pitcher, lacks rhythm in swing, mid/pull approach, line drive and ground ball contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Average hands and feet on left-side of field, clean arm action, long release on throws, accurate to bag, 75 mph arm strength.
