Super 60: Rode's Highlights

As expected, the 2015 Super 60 was loaded with talent and gave all of us a preview of the season ahead. Scouts showed up en masse to see more than 70 prospects in action and surely couldn’t have been disappointed. Pitching was arguably the most impressive segment of the event as all but 25 pitchers touched 89 mph or better. Below are some highlights that stood out for me as I focus on the months leading up to the 2015 draft.
+ C/OF David Craan (Whitney Young HS, IL) certainly made a statement right away. The first player to run the 60-yard dash, he promptly turned in the best time of the event at 6.53. He also led off the defensive portion behind the plate, showing a clean exchange and strong arm. That arm strength also translated in the outfield as the ball comes out of his hand easily. His pop times ranged from 1.87-1.95 seconds and he hit 90 from the outfield. At the plate, he has some bat speed and showed off a smooth stroke, producing an exit velo of 92. Featured as a potential breakout player in last week’s Hotlist, Craan didn’t disappoint. His defensive tools would make him a prospect behind the plate, but given his speed, it’s unlikely that he stays back there. He’ll likely play the outfield at the next level to save his legs and use them to track fly balls and put pressure on the defense.
