WHATS NEW AT THE TOP
While several top prospects have made their case for the state's top player, there is a new name as we enter the spring season. C/RHP Aaron Dolney has continuously impressed over the past year, and maintained that trend at our annual Preseason All-State Showcase in March. Michigan State commits RHP Christopher Mokma (Holland Christian) and Dillon Kark (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s) are holding strong at No. 2 and No. 3. Joining the top ten are two right-handed pitchers, No. 5 Trey Nordmann and No. 6 Cameron Wagoner.
Nordmann is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound RHP who throws effortlessly. On the mound, he may have been the most impressive arm we saw in the class during the winter events. He possess a clean delivery sitting 84-86 mph from a high-¾ arm angle. And, he has a college level breaking ball coupled with a fading changeup.
Wagoner is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound potential two way prospect. He possess long limbs and wide shoulders - offering plenty of projection in the future. In the outfield, he is a corner guy with raw skills throwing 86 mph and running a 7.16. At the plate, he shows good power and obvious bat speed with a 90 mph exit velocity off the tee. However, he may have the most upside on the mound. He pounds the zone with a loose arm that figures to see a velo jump in the summer. His fastball sits 84-86 mph with good late movement. And, he uses a late breaking curve and mixes in a deceptive changeup.
The Risers
OF Tate Peterson, OF/RHP Ethan Peters and 1B/LHP Ryan Marra all joined the rankings in a grand fashion. All had strong performances at their summer team’s scout days (Diamonds, Legacy and Maroons) and make the jump into the top 20.
Peterson, a 5-foot-8, 155-pound true left-handed outfield prospect with strong family ties in the baseball world. He is a student of the game that posses a strong skill set that will allow him to play all over the OF. His present 6.7 speed and 90 mph arm strength will play at the next level.
Peters, a 6-foot-1, 181-pound two-way prospect was quite impressive displaying a solid three pitch mix on the mound. He ran his fastball up to 83 mph showing two alternative pitches. In the outfield, he uses his athleticism to his advantage. At the moment, he shows a quick first step and appears to gain speed each time we see him. He threw 86 mph from the outfield and registered an impressive 89 mph exit velocity.
Marra, is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect with a strong frame. He is two-pitch lefty that figures to be a relief type at the next level. His fastball ran up to 81 mph and he mixes a breaking ball with 2/8 shape. At the plate, the left-handed hitter displays an aggressive swing that shows raw power. He barrels the ball often displaying the ability to go to all fields. His athleticism may allow him to play a corner outfield spot at the next level.
