No. 2 Sterling Heights Stevenson Knocks Off No. 1 Brother Rice

The two top teams in PBR rankings faced off Monday night and did not disappoint, Brother Rice (2-1-1) and Sterling Heights Stevenson (1-0) faced off in doubleheader. In Game One, Sterling Heights received tremendous pitching performances from senior pitchers Zach McGuire (Michigan State) and Brandon Hughes (Michigan State) as they allowed three hits in a 6-1 victory.

For the offense, Dean Emanuele (Jackson CC) hit a double and had two runs for Stevenson, Brandon Williams had an RBI double and two runs as well.

Riley McCauley (Michigan State) hit a 2-run HR in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

For Brother Rice, the only run scored when Nick Plummer (Michigan) reached base on a walk and eventually came around to score after a throwing error on the third basemen. Starting pitcher Dominic Downs took the loss pitching 3 inning allowing 3 runs, 5 hits, and 2 K’s.

In game two, the game was tied at 3-3 and was called off due to darkness. McGuire led the way offensively for Stevenson with two hits and two RBI’s. Joe Wolf (Kellogg CC) and Jake Rogers combined to give up 4 hits and 6 strikeouts for Stevenson. Brother Rice was led offensively by Davis Feldman who had a two-run triple, scoring Matt Ruppenthal (Vanderbilt) and Bobby Cross
