December 2, 2015
John Malcom, 1B/LHP, Detroit Country Day, 2018
PBR: Why did you choose Vanderbilt?
John: I was impressed with the campus and the academic resources as well as the outstanding baseball program. They seem to care about your total development as a student athlete.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
John: Primarily schools in the Big 10, SEC and ACC.
PBR: You were a member of Team Michigan at the 2015 Future Games. How did that help your recruitment?
John: During the Future Games we were observed by several colleges and scouts. The PBR staff was helpful in giving me contact information for schools that I was interested in pursuing.
PBR: Vanderbilt has been a perennial National Title contender and mainstay at the College World Series. How much of a role did that play in your decision?
John: It was something that I kept in mind but it was not the most important factor. It was more important to me how the coaches prepared their players for success on the field and if I could become part of it.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
John: I believe it was at the Future Games. They later saw me at the USA National trials and during fall ball.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?
John: I played for Team Elite Prime. My most memorable moment was playing in the championship game during the USA National team trials.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter and pitcher that you have faced?
John: I have faced a few tough pitchers and hitters. It's difficult to just name one.
PBR: Now that you have committed, what are your remaining goals for high school?
John: To do well in my classes and to help my team win a state title.
