Weekend Roundup: April 12-13

Friday April 12
#3 Brother Rice 14 De La Salle 2 – Karl Kauffmann got the win throwing all five innings allowing two runs on four hits and striking out eight. Bobby Cross had a big day at the plate going 3-4 with a homerun and six RBI. Leadoff hitter Nick Plummer also had a good game going 2-2 with a triple, five RBI, and three runs scored. Tommy Lentz was also 2-2 with a double, RBI and three runs.
#3 Brother Rice 9 De La Salle 4 – Brother Rice jumped on the board early scoring in three of the first four innings. Ty Kiafoulis hit a three run homerun and finished the day with four RBI and two runs scored. Matt Ruppenthal and Alex Malzone each had a hit, RBI, and scored twice. Randy Righter threw all seven innings to pick up the victory on the mound.
#9 U of D Jesuit 7 Orchard Lake St. Marys 3 – Harrison Wenson had a big day at the plate going 3-4 with two homeruns (grand slam), five RBI, and three runs scored. TJ Shook got the win throwing all seven innings allowing just two earned runs on four hits and striking out 11. He was also 2-4 at the plate with a RBI.
Orchard Lake St. Marys 8 #9 U of D Jesuit 4 – Connor Bowers got the win throwing all seven innings allowing three earned runs on four hits and striking out 11. Devin Rose went 3-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored and Julian Jones drove in three runs and scored once.
East Grand Rapids 7 Wyoming 6 – Ryan Dayton got the win throwing three innings allowing no runs and striking out five. Andrew Zawacki and Connor Genther each drove in two runs and Joel Dayton doubled and scored two runs.
Grosse Pointe South 15 Grosse Point North 8 – South put up seven runs in the first two innings, North responded with eight in the top of third to take the lead. South then took the lead for good with a five run bottom of the third. Jack Doyle led the offense going 3-5 with two RBI and two runs. Glen Fishback, David Wittwer, Carmen Benedetti, and Ron Williams each had two hits and two RBI.
Rochester 11 Utica Ford 7 – Matt Halsey scored three times and Matt Berkstrom had two hits.
Rochester 7 Utica Ford 2 – Matt Harper went 3-3 with a homerun and three RBI to lead the offense. Connor Pacella and Mitch Weber each homered as well.
Stevenson 5 Southfield Lathrup 4 – Mike Kanitra and Josh Deyonker both doubled and drove in a run for Stevenson. Mike Vomastek and Rodney Bies each had two hits. Johnny Slater led the offense for Southfield going 2-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Eric Langford and Kahri Lofton each drove in a run.
Stevenson 16 Southfield Lathrup 1 – Stevenson scored in each of their at bats on their way to a five inning victory. Josh Deyonker went 3-3 with two RBI and two runs to lead the offense. Jake Semak was 2-4 with a RBI and two runs, Jake Ivey was 2-3 with two RBI and two runs, and Sean McCann drove in three runs.
St. Patrick 8 St. Isaac Jogues 3 – Nick Kupchel got the win throwing six innings allowing three runs on six hits and striking out nine. Dylan Moser led the offense going 2-3 with a triple, four RBI, and a run scored. Ben Stockton and Nate Shallal each went 2-3 and drove in two runs, Stockton also scored once. Kyle Gilbert was 2-2 with a double and three runs.
Holland Christian 8 Saugatuck 4
Freshman standout Michael Mokma (Holland Christian) made his high school debut. Mokma a 6-foot-4 RHP went three innings and stuck out three without issuing a free pass.
Saturday April 13
Waterford Our Lady of Lakes 1, No. 2 Sterling Heights Stevenson 13
In Game 1, Stevenson overwhelmed Our Lady of Lakes a potent offensive attack. CF Greg McDade was a perfect two for two, including a triple and three runs scored. Zack McGuire and Bobby Griffin helped propel the offense driving in two and three runs respectively. On the mound, Nick Burner picked up the win and worked three innings and struck out four. He was followed by unsigned senior Nick Dunlap who work the two final innings also striking out four.
Waterford Our Lady of Lakes 3, No. 2 Sterling Heights Stevenson 9
Our Lady of Lakes gave Stevenson a scare in Game 2. They mounted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 4-3 heading into the top of seven. Jacob Rogers and Dean Emanuele both had bases clearing doubles in the five run seventh inning. Brandon Hughes had four stolen bases in the game for Stevenson. On the mound the Titans were lead by Joey Wolf who worked three hitless innings to start the game while striking out two and walking one. Brandon Williams escaped the three run sixth by Our Lady of Lakes and completed the game going the final four innings. Williams' line was four innings pitched, four strikeouts, three runs and only two earned.
Wyoming 6, East Grand Rapids 7
Despite the Wyoming tournament being cancelled, Wyoming still found a way to get a game in at East Grand Rapids. East Grand Rapids come from behind scoring four runs in the seventh to complete the come from behind victory. Wyoming was lead offensively by Jack Rozema and Tyler Davis who each homered for Wyoming.
Romeo 11, Utica 0
Alec Padilla had a huge day at the plate for Romeo as he hammered two homeruns in the victory. Senior Derek Staelgraeve not only three a complete game one-hit shutout for the Bulldogs, but he also went 2-3 at the plate collecting two RBI. Staelgraeve only need 78 pitches to throw six innings, strike out seven and only allow the one hit. Staelgraeve's only blemish was allowing a leadoff bunt single to Utica's Taylor Curtis in bottom of the fourth.
