Andrew Wanger threw a complete game three-hit shutout and Tyler Babyak’s big day at the plate propelled the Brunswick Railroaders to their second straight state championship and sixth championship in school history.

Brunswick got the scoring started in the second when Babyak laced a double down the third base line that rolled into the left field corner with a runner on first. That lead runner was able to come all the way around to score to give Brunswick a 1-0 lead. Babyak then again was responsible for the second Railroaders run of the game when he led the fifth inning off with a homerun to left field to extend the Brunswick lead to 2-0. Connor Kean responded in the same inning with a long ball of his own with two out to extend the lead to 3-0. Still with two outs in the inning, Brunswick would get the next two hitters on base after a single and walk. Tyler Ebberts would then drive an RBI single to right field giving the Railroaders a 4-0 lead which was more than enough for their starting pitcher Wanger.

Wanger controlled the Patterson Mill lineup throughout the game, striking out six while only giving three free bases (two BB, one HBP). He was able to stop two rallies before they started by picking off two runners at first base. The Huskies struggled to get anything going on the day as Wanger showed great command of a fastball that ranged from 84-87 mph early in the contest to go with a hard breaking ball.

Though it was a tough day for Patterson Mill in the game, it should not go unnoticed of a successful year for the Huskies and their young roster that should continue to contend in the coming years.

With the second championship of the decade Brunswick is beginning to bring back the memories of their dominant run back in the early 1990’s when they won four championships from 1990 to 1996 including three in a row in 1990, 1991, and 1992.
