Scouting Report
2.21.15 - Jaret Bennett is a 6-foot-1 185-pound LHP/1B. As a position player, Bennett showed fluid footwork with average feet and a quick exchange. He made accurate and consistent throws from his high ¾ arm slot at a velocity of 76 mph. At the plate gets a little long at times with his swing with good balance and smooth load. Has a level barrel that stays in the zone with an exit velocity of 77 mph. Bennett projects well on the mound. Pitching from a high ¾ arm slot, he showed good athleticism in his delivery and a fluid rhythm. His free and quick arm displayed a velocity of 84 mph maxing out at 86 with run and downhill action. He threw a 2/8 breaking ball with near fastball arm speed and late break. Throws a split with gradual break at 68 mph and showed feel for a changeup with late fade. Breaking ball has potential to be power pitch. The very projectable pitcher displays early flashes of being a power arm from the left side and potentially a two way talent. A very intriguing prospect in the 2016 class.
What made Charleston Southern the right fit for you?
+ It's south where it's much warmer and located near the city of Charleston. Got a great feeling about the coaching staff and program as a whole.
What was the recruiting process like for you?
+ The recruiting process happens very quickly. Mostly texts/calls after the initial contact by email. It has it's ups where it can be overwhelming and it's downs.
What other schools did you consider?
+ College of Charleston, Towson, VCU
What were key factors you were looking for in your college decision?
+ I wanted to go south. I wanted to be a place where both the coach and I felt I could make an immediate impact. Didn't want a place where you get the generic recruiting stuff that can almost seem dishonest.
What are your goals now before you graduate?
+ Win a state championship.
What are you going to bring to Charleston Southern as a freshman?
+ A determination to get on the field and do whatever I can to help the team.
Who is the best player you have played against?
+ Junior Harding
What summer program did you play for and what did you learn with them?
+ I played for the Maryland Monarchs. I learned a lot about my mechanics and ways to let guys get themselves out.
Do you have any advice for younger players beginning to/going through the recruiting process?
+ Be patient. The right school will come as long as you're working hard.
