Brady O'Neil went 3-for-4 with two homeruns and five RBI's to help lead St. Mary’s to the MIAA victory over Mount St. Joseph 9-5.
Mount St. Joseph led 2-1 heading into the third inning after a two-run RBI single by Nick Torroella off St. Mary’s starter Stephen Pelli. St. Mary’s would get the scoring started in the top of the third after an O’Neil solo homerun and two-run RBI single by Ben Rankin making it 4-2 in the bottom of the third. MSJ cut into the Saints lead with a leadoff double from Jake Wyandt who would score on an error making it 4-3.
O’Neil would drive in two more runs in the fourth followed by another RBI single by Rankin to extend the St. Mary’s lead to 7-3. MSJ would cut that lead in half after a St. Mary’s error and a manufactured run after a double steal with runners on first and third making the score 7-5. O’Neil once again came up big for the Saints hitting a two-run homerun to center in the top of the sixth giving St. Mary’s a 9-5 lead. Both teams went quietly the rest of the way to give St. Mary's the victory .
Cam Nolet went three innings in relief for the Saints, shutting down the MSJ lineup. Pelli would give up three earned runs in four innings while striking out 7. Ben Rankin finished 2-for-3 with three RBI while his brother Will Rankin would also add a 2-for-3 day with an RBI to lead the St. Mary’s offense along with O’Neil.
Mount St. Joes was led by Sean Zaranski who went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Torroella, who finished the day 1-for-4 with two RBI.
