Pitchers
+Colonel Richardson came up just short of the state championship game and Jaret Bennett (Charleston-Southern) will play a major role in getting the team back there in 2016. Athletic arm and delivery, look for Bennett to make a jump this season…Tyler Blohm (Maryland) once again is the leading arm for Spalding this season as he takes the lone role as ace on the Cavaliers pitching staff…Grant Burleson (Maryland) has made a big jump in the past year pitching against some great competition over the summer. He will now lead a Parkside pitching staff looking to replace Hunter Parsons…Anthony Felitti (George Mason) led Gaithersburg to the 4A state title last season and will have to pitch big again this season in the Trojans quest for a repeat…Brandon Martin (Fordham) had a rocky start to 2015, then pitched very well the back half of the season and was another pitcher that increased his stock over the course of the year. Look for a big year from the righty for Westminster that could end up on the draft radar…St. Mary’s RHP Elliot Zoellner (Maryland) had a quiet 2015 due to injury that limited his innings. He is considered by many as the top pitcher in the state for the 2016 draft.
Catchers
+Spalding HS C Carter Sears (James Madison) quietly emerged as one of the top catchers in the state after 2015. He might be the most complete package with his offensive presence coupled with his ability behind the plate…LaPlata HS C Tyler Stockwell (Rider) is going to have an important role in their 2016 season. Look for the power threat to play well and lead the team to another playoff run.
Infielders
+SS Jeremy Arocho is prepped to have a breakout year for Old Mill HS in 2016. The 2017 Maryland commit and No. 1 in the 2017 PBR Maryland state rankings came onto the scene last year with his defensive prowess and look for the switch-hitting infielder to come into a complete threat in the coming year…Georgetown Prep’s Brian Dempsey (Boston College) should be considered as one of the top defensive players in the state and is a key to the Little Hoyas quest for another IAC title…Dempsey’s teammate and No. 1 in the 2016 PBR Maryland state rankings Matt Mervis is a dynamic bat and power presence in the Little Hoyas lineup and could also play an increased role for Prep on the mound this 2016 season…Look for a big season from Boonsboro’s Devin Stewart (UMBC). An athletic talent and threat at the plate, Stewart will be a key to how far Boonsboro goes in the 2016 season.
Outfielders
+Another IAC talent makes our first team in OF Randy Bednar. The Maryland commit in the 2017 class might be have the most tools of any player in the state…OF Ryan Brown (Charleston-Southern) has hit his way into the record books at Saint James and Washington county and now has his sight set on a MAC and IPSL championship…DaVonn Griffin (James Madison) is one of the fastest outfielders in the state and the projectable talent looks to continue to increase his stock after a successful 2015.
Utility
+RHP/OF Jack Schroeder of Mount Hebron will be a big player for the team this season in their attempt to get back to the 3A state championship game. Schroeder had a very successful season at the plate last season and will have an increased role on the mound in 2016…The only utility player that doesn’t also pitch, C/INF Spencer Horwitz of St. Paul’s could be seen this year at multiple positions but there is no denying that the left-handed hitter is one of the biggest offensive threats in the state.
