HIGHLIGHTED PLAYERS FROM THE OCTOBER CLASSIC AT THE NEBC

Justin Garcia, SS, East Longmeadow HS, 2016

Justin has a rangy build with room to fill out. He showed a solid glove, plenty of arm and the ability to make adjustments with his feet. He will need work on the pivot and strength in his body. His swing is loose and workable, with work he is certainly a gap-to-gap guy. He showed good foot speed and ability on the bases.

Nick Santucci, SS/OF, Franklin HS 2016

Nick has a very projectable frame with wide shoulders and very big feet. He was playing shortstop but I think he will have to move to the outfield or he could possibly be a left-handed hitting third baseman. I really like his swing and his hand path. It is simple and adjustable. He is still growing into his frame so it is hard to say what type of runner this guy will be, but I like his game. He shows arm strength and with growth could develop into a very good thrower.

Tre Jackson, OF, Career HS (CT), 2015

Tre is an uncommitted player with a ton of upside at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. He plays centerfield and moves extremely well. He displayed an above average arm with plenty of carry on the ball. He throws left and hits left-handed. His path is a tick long right now, but the looseness of the swing itself is tremendous. You can see with playing experience, this guy could be a good one. He is big, left-handed and athletic.

Wright Lindgren. RHP. Ridgefield HS (CT), 2015

Wright is a big bodied right-handed pitcher with a great deal to like. He pitched at 85-87 and touched an 88. His fastball has arm side run to it and good life. His spin is a tweener and could be tweaked to be an above average slider but right now its slurvy in the low 70’s. I didn’t see much of a changeup. You have to like his body and the arm speed which make him worth a serious look.

Mason Feole, LHP, Prout School (RI), 2016

Mason is a good looking left-handed pitcher who pitched on Sunday at NEBC. He showed a tick higher than ¾ slot with a fast arm. I like his 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame as it will fill out and should lead to a significant jump in velocity. He challenged with his fastball on both sides of the plate and I did not see much secondary stuff in the two innings I watched him. I did see a big breaking ball in the bullpen which looked projectable. He pitched 82-84 mph and touched an 85. He is a big follow for me.

Andrew Savard, C, Tyngsboro, 2015

Andrew is a UMass-Lowell commit and has a ton of ability behind the dish. I like his frame and he has plenty of arm to play the position. He receives softly and commands the staff as the game progresses. At the plate, he showed hand speed and pull juice. He will be coached up and should be a very good college player.

Zach Ardito, SS, Notre Dame West Haven HS, 2016

Zach is a UConn commit and showed very well defensively this past weekend. He gets off the ball well and has plenty of arm. I like his play at the pivot and he showed an ability to go back on the ball as well, making a great play in short center. At the plate, his hands work and he needs physical strength to aid the barrel. He does tend to get very big in his swing, and he will need to tone that down as he goes. Plenty to like about this fast twitch defender.

Jake Nelson, RHP, Phillips Academy, 2015

Jake pitched this last weekend and I watched for an inning. He does have a power arm  and does show the feel for a small slider. His biggest advantage is his ability to pitch downhill with his fastball. His high slot produces the leverage, which is probably best in a fastball/changeup combo but we will see how it plays out. He should be a good reliever with plus velocity out of the gate.
