Prep Baseball Report

On the Recruiting Trail with 2017 Catcher Aaron Soucy (Pomfret School)

By Dennis Healy
PBR MA Director of Scouting

Aaron Soucy, C, Pomfret School, 2017

PBR: How is the fall season going?

Aaron: The fall season went very well. I was fortunate enough to go down to Ft. Myers for the underclass championship. It was a great experience and it gave us a lot of exposure. I also worked on my hitting and catching in the cages.

PBR: What schools have touched base with you?

Aaron: Right now a bunch of D1, D2, and D3 schools have contacted me. Since I'm a 2017, I am just trying to see which schools are the best fit for me for the future. I’ve also gone on a few visits.

PBR: Who taught you your defensive skills?

Aaron: My Coach Matt Kruger from North East Baseball has been a big part of my success. I have worked with him ever since I was 10 years old. We work a lot on blocking, throwing, and receiving, along with the mental side of catching. I also watch a lot of videos of catching mechanics.

PBR: What do you look to improve upon these next couple years?

Aaron: Over the next few years I want to get bigger. I went through a bit of a growth spurt about a year ago. I am looking to put on weight and get stronger and faster. As always, I am also working to continue to improve my catching mechanics and bat.

PBR: How do you balance rigorous academics and high level baseball?

Aaron: I am a day student at a prep school called the Pomfret School, so it makes going to the cage to practice little easier. I am usually done with sports around 6 pm, eat dinner, then I am at the cage around 7:00. I manage my academics by taking advantage of doing homework during car rides to the cage, study hall, and good time management.

PBR:  Who do you like to watch catch in the big leagues?

Aaron: There is one guy that I found out about this year that I really like to watch. His name is Tucker Barnhart. He is a catcher who played a little bit for the Reds this year. I also like to watch Alex Avila and Matt Wieters.
