The Preseason All-State Showcase took place on February 14 and included more than 100 players from around the state. Collectively, it was arguably the most talented group of players we have assembled for an event since we began operations in Kentucky.

Reid Pope did his part to contribute to that talented group showing impressive two-way ability at the event.

The 6-foot, 185-pound junior OF/RHP from McCracken County HS began his day by showcasing his athleticism in defensive drills. Pope attacks and plays through the baseball well, and his 89 mph arm strength from the outfield was good for the second best velocity among the group.

Offensively, the right-handed hitter hits from tall and open stance with an aggressive stride. Pope’s hands are loose and quick, and he is able to drive the baseball to the gaps with little effort. His 95 mph exit velocity off the tee put him in the top three for the event, and he topped off his impressive performance by running a 7.00 60-yard dash.

Pope proved to be an interesting prospect on the mound as well. The right-hander featured an 83-86 mph fastball that topped at 87 on one occasion. He complemented the fastball with a 67-71 mph curveball with 11/5 action and showed some feel for his 71-74 mph changeup.

Look for Pope to be a major contributor, both in the outfield and on the mound, for a talented McCracken County squad looking to get back to the State Tournament again this spring.
