Player of the Week: Blake Peterson, Washburn Rural HS
April 28, 2014
By Sean McCann
Prep Baseball Report
Much attention has been given to Washburn Rural's hot start to the 2014 season and potent offense led by five hitters with batting averages over .400 and a team batting average of .376. One of those hitters doing his part to boost those numbers is junior three-sport athlete Blake Peterson who currently sports a .424 average for the Junior Blues.
Offensive numbers aside, you don’t dial in a 12-1 team record on the diamond without some solid work on the mound and Peterson has done his part there too. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-hander’s record currently stands at 4-0 yielding only 9 hits in 21 2/3 innings with an impressive 0.97 ERA.
Last Tuesday, in a match-up of two of the top teams in the Centennial League, Peterson threw a seven-inning, complete game no-hitter against Shawnee Heights earning him the Prep Baseball Report Kansas Player of the Week award.
