Much attention has been given to Washburn Rural's hot start to the 2014 season and potent offe
nse led by five hitters with batting averages over .400 and a team batting average of .376. One of those hitters doing his part to boost those numbers is junior three-sport athlete Blake Peterson who currently sports a .424 average for the Junior Blues.
Offensive numbers aside, you don’t dial in a 12-1 team record on the diamond without some solid work on the mound and Peterson has done his part there too. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-hander’s record currently stands at 4-0 yielding only 9 hits in 21 2/3 innings with an impressive 0.97 ERA.
Last Tuesday, in a match-up of two of the top teams in the Centennial League, Peterson threw a seven-inning, complete game no-hitter against Shawnee Heights earning him the Prep Baseball Report Kansas Player of the Week award.
