Kansas Underclass Games: Corner Infielder's Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Kansas held the Underclass Prospect Games on May 31 at Kansas State University.  Nearly 100 players participated in the 2018 and 2019 class. 

Player profiles have been updated with video, times, velos and profile pictures.  Today we will take a look at the outfielders performances from the event.  Although some corner infielders may have played other positions, this is just a break down of the performances at corner infield.  In the days to come we will break down middle infielders and pitchers.

Corner Infielders

Joe Bryant, 3B, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2019
Bryant is a 5-foot-10 141-pound right-handed hitting third-baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.26 60 and a 4.57 home-to-first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, gap-to-gap approach, short inline stride, level path thought the zone, hands work inside of ball, singled in the hole at short during game action.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, one of the top velos on the day, high three quarters release, long arm circle, fluid exchange, accurate throws.

Ethan Kaus, 3B, Manhattan, 2018

Kaus is a 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed hitting third-baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.33 60 and got down the line in 4.70-seconds.  He has an exit velo of 80 mph.  At the plate, consistent solid contact during batting practice, loose bat whip, smooth load, middle of field line drives, some power, repeats swing. On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top infield velos on the day, high three-quarters release, made all plays cleanly during infield evaluations, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

David Kephart, 1B, Blue Valley Northwest, 2019
Kephart is a 6-foot-3 160-pound right-handed hitting first-baseman in Kansas 2019 class.  He ran a 7.64 60 and a 5.00 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 80 mph.  At the plate, swing produced line drives to the middle of the field, athletic stance, controlled leg lift to load, some hand load, loose hands level path, lined out to second and flew out to left in game action.  On the infield, accurate throws, 76 mph positional velo at 1B, moves well to the ball, athletic footwork, quick catch and throw. 

Alexander Khan, 1B, Truman (MO), 2019
Khan is a 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed hitting first-baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 8.31 60 and has a a home-to-first time of 5.27-seconds.  At the plate, athletic stance, smooth load into back side, no wasted movement,  aggressive swing, middle to pull side contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, creates momentum towards target, fluid footwork with clean exchange, accurate throws. 

Devin Lauts, 1B, Lawrence, 2018
Lauts is a 6-foot-1 200-pound right-handed hitting first-baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.56 60 and has a home-to-first time of 4.84.  His exit velo is 94 mph, top RHH velo for the event.  At the plate, athletic stance, toe tap to inline stride, aggressive swing, fast bat speed, hard consistent contact during batting practice, showed power to the middle of the field, hard single up the middle during game action.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, athletic footwork, moves well to ball, accurate throws, quick catch and throw. 

Mason Little, 1B, Mill Valley, 2018
Little is a 6-foot-2 165-pound left-handed hitting first-baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 4.56 home-to-first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin and tall set up, smooth load, in line stride, gap-to-gap approach, flat swing plane with slight natural lefty lift, repeats swing, doubled down left field line in game action.  At first base, 69 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, quick feet, fluid exchange, quick catch and throw, long and lean frame able to strength as he develops.

Devon Lujan, 3B, Olathe East, 2018
Lujan is a strong 6-foot-2 205-pound right-handed hitting third-baseman in Kansas 2018 class.  He ran a 7.81 60 and a 5.00 home-to-first.  He has a 93 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos for the event. At the plate, open stance, short path to contact, aggressive swing, quick bat, hit balls hard the other way during batting practice, loose hands, advanced swing.  On the infield, high three quarters release, fluid transfer, accurate throws, plays through the ball, made all plays cleanly, 76 mph positional velo.

Greg Norman, 1B, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2019
Norman is a 6-foot-3 175-pound left-handed hitting first-baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and has a 4.40 home-to-first.  His exit velo is 84 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, short path to contact, hands work inside ball, consistent solid contact mostly to middle of the field during batting practice, hands work inside ball, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, short high three quarters release, soft hands, quick catch and throw, accurate throws, quick feet. 

Reid Seacat, 1B, Olathe Northwest, 2018
Seacat is a 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting first-baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.19 60 and has a home-to-first time of 4.52.  He has an exit velo of 91 mph, one of the top LHH velos on the day.  At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift, smooth load, fast bat speed, pull side power, slight natural lift swing path.  On the infield, quick feet, high three quarters release, quick to the ball, clean transfer, quick release, 71 mph positional velo.

Joe Rost, 3B, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2019
Rost is a projectable 6-foot-3 190-pound right-handed hitting third-baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 7.78 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 80 mph.  At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load, middle to oppo line drives during batting practice, level swing path to extension, loose hands, singled up the middle and reached on an error in game action.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, loose high three quarters arm action, gains ground towards target after catch, accurete throws, fluid footwork with clean exchange, 76 mph positional velo. 

Jackson Thornhill, 1B, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2019
Thornhill is a 6-foot-1 200-pound right-handed hitting first-baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.84 60 and has a home-to-first time of 4.90-seconds.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, takes an aggressive swing, athletic stance, slightly crouched, quick hands, showed power to middle of field during batting practice, gap-to-gap approach. At first base, 76 mph positional velo, short three-quarters arm slot, moves to ball with purpose, fluid footwork, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws, strong build. 
 
Jack Wagner, 3B, Maize South, 2018
Wagner is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting third-baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.33 60 and has a home-to-first time of 4.84-seconds.  His exit velo is 78 mph.  At the plate, open stance, some hand load, loose hands create bat whip, level path, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, one of the top infield velos on the day, three quarters arm slot, plays through the ball, made all plays cleanly, fluid footwork, accurate throws with carry.
