Tanner Gragg, the #7 ranked player in the class 2014 Prep Baseball Report Kansas Player Rankings has announced his commitment to the University of Kansas. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher from Blue Valley West HS visited Lawrence this weekend and committed today.
Gragg, who possesses one of the top throwing arms in the nation in the 2014 class, received a number of offers over the last several months. In the modern era of recruiting where patience is a rarity, Gragg took his time as he searched for the best fit – the end result being a scholarship from the Big 12 Conference Jayhawks, a school 40 miles from his hometown.
Throughout the fall Gragg played for Building Champions Academy out of Overland Park, KS, and is the 9th player in that program to commit to a Division I school. He also played for the Royals Elite Scout Team on Wednesday’s this fall.
In a remarkable year for high school catching talent in the area, Gragg represents the fourth catcher in the Kansas 2014 class to commit to a major college baseball program joining TJ Martin (Blue Valley Southwest HS) who signed with the Jayhawks earlier this week; as well as Gunnar Troutwine (Shawnee Mission East HS) and Taylor Sanagorski (Bishop Carroll HS) both of whom are headed to Wichita State.
We had the chance to see Gragg in late August at a tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was one of the players we featured in an article about this event.
