Prep Baseball Report-Missouri/Kansas held the Bi-State Winter Open ID Showcase on Saturday, February 20 at Prodigy Baseball Academy in Parkville, Missouri. The event featured over 50 players from the Missouri and Kansas area in the 2016 to 2019 classes.
Player's profiles have been updated with times, velos, videos and profile pictures. We will take a look at each position, looking at the catcher's today. Although some catchers worked out in other positions, this is just a look at the catching performances. Catchers are listed in alphabetical order below.

Catchers
Robert Bundy, Andover (KS), 2017
Bundy is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2017 class from Andover HS. He ran a 4.44 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, open stance, short in-line stride, loose hands, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing. Behind the plate, pop times between 1.96 and 2.27, 76 mph positional velo, short over the top release, quick exchange with fluid footwork.
Cameron Chick, Hickman (MO), 2018
Chick is a 5-foot-9 165-pound switch-hitting catcher Missouri’s 2018 class from Hickman HS in Columbia. He ran a 4.19 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 82 mph from the left side and an 88 mph exit velo from the right side. At the plate, starts in an athletic stance, smooth load, no wasted movement, short stride, quick bat speed, loose hands, gap-to-gap approach, similar swing from both sides. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.02 to 2.21, 75 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick catch and throw, momentum through the throw, quick feet.
Amos Healy, Staley (MO), 2017
Healy is a 6-foot-2 172-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2017 from Staley HS. He ran a 4.18 home-to-first and has and exit velo of 89 mph. At the plate, balanced stance with rhythm in hands, minimal load, level path through zone, consistent solid contact to middle of cage. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.05 and 2.26, 76 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick exchange, fluid footwork.
Braxton Johannsen, Maize South (KS), 2016
Johannsen is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2016 class from Maize South HS. He ran a 4.94 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 80 mph. At the plate, starts with an open stance, in line stride, smooth load, accelerated rhythm, loose hands, gap-to-gap approach. Behind the plate, 2.10 to 2.33 pop times, 64 mph positional velo, quick glove to hand transfer, over the top release, fluid footwork.
Adam Lackey, Eureka (MO), 2017
Lackey is a 5-foot-11 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2017 class from Eureka HS. Lackey ran a 5.06 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, starts in athletic stance, feet slightly close, no wasted movement in load, level path though contact, gap-to-gap approach. Behind the plate, 2.12 to 2.28 pop times, 70 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, clean transfer, athletic footwork.
Nate Thompson, Park Hill (MO), 2017
Thompson is a 5-foot-8 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2017 class from Park Hill HS. He ran a 4.53 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 80 mph. At the plate, open stance, fluid rhythm, quick bat speed, power to the pull gap, consistent solid contact. Behind the plate, 1.95 to 2.09 pop times, 80 mph positional velo, quick transfer, short over the top release, momentum towards target, arm works, throws have carry.
Hayden Thornton, Staley (MO), 2019
Thornton is a 5-foot-6 170-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class from Staley HS. He ran a 4.78 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 73 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, feet slightly close, hands walk away from stride foot to lead, swing produced consistent middle to pull side line drives. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.20 and 2.51, 67 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick feet with clean exchange, player to follow in 2019 class.
Garrett Welschmeyer, Blair Oaks (MO), 2017
Welshchmeyer is a 5-foot-10 205-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2017 class from Blair Oaks HS. He ran a 4.59 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, short stride, efficient movements in load, level path to extension, drove balls consistently gap-to-gap during batting practice. Behind the plate, 2.12 to 2.27 pop times, 73 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid transfer and exchange, arm works, throws have carry.
Ethan White, Buhler (KS), 2017
White is a 5-foot-10 14-pound right-handed hitting catcher from Kansas’ 2017 class from Buhler HS. He ran a 4.60 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 80 mph. At the plate, thin and open set up, open stride, loose hands, body stays under control during swing, consistent hard contact middle to pull side. Behind the plate, 2.05 to 2.27 pop times, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release with momentum to target, hand and feet work together, fluid exchange and footwork.
