Top Prospect Games: Team Red Analysis

On June 24-25 PBR Indiana hosted the second annual Top Prospect Games at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN on the beautiful all-turf Bart Kaufman field.

Indiana's Top Prospect Games has quickly established itself as one of the premier events in the Midwest with over 100 players participating in the event each of the last two years. 

Below we take a look at notes on players from Team Red: 

In Alphabetical Order

Sam Berry, MIF, Carmel HS, 20166 foot / 160 pounds, 4.7-H-1st. threw 77 across the infield with easy arm action and always on target. Strong athletic frame. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, bats drags through the zone with a short path, slap type hitter.

Matthew Burleton, LHP, Lawrence Central HS, 20156 foot 1 inch/ 220 pounds, Big athletic left hand pitcher. Pitches out of  a long ¾ arm angle and easy effort. Fastball was 82-83 with heavy downhill plain. Curveball 62mph with early slurvy type break, change up was 69 mph with sink. He was consistently in the strike zone with all three pitches.

Kalib Clark, C, Plainfield HS, 20165 foot 8 inches/ 150 pounds, 4.94-H-1st, 1.95- 2.08 pop time. Athletic catcher that frames pitches well and moves well behind the plate. Hits from a balanced stance with a smooth short stride. Generates good bat speed, will be a gap to gap type hitter. 

Kellan Elsbury, LHP, Zionsville HS, 2015: 5 foot 10 inches/ 165 pounds. Long smooth ¾ arm delivery. Fastball is 81-84 mph with late, hard run, curveball was 69-71 with late break from a fastball delivery, Change up 76-78 with fade. He threw all three pitched for strikes. 

Nolan Elsbury, OF/SS, Zionsville HS, 2016: 6 foot / 165 pounds, 4.25-H-1st. Velo was 85 from the outfield with loose easy arm action. Soft hands, fluid feet and a clean ball transfer, throws were on target . He hits from a open stance with a short stride. Generate fast bat speed. 

Marshall Farren, SS/OF, Brebeuf HS, 2015: 6 foot 3 inches/ 175 pounds. 4.65-H-1st, Athletic frame with a long ¾ arm with carry and on target.  Average hands, fluid feet and a smooth easy ball transfer. Hits from a balanced stance with a short, smooth stride. Slap hitter.

Evan Frank, LHP, Park Tuder HS, 20156 foot 8 inches/ 180 pounds. Lanky with wide shoulders. High ¾ arm slot with a funky delivery. Fastball was 72-73 with some downhill plain. Curveball was 66 mph.

Mitchell Garrity, LHP/OF, Perry Meridian HS, 20165 foot 11 inches/ 180 pounds, 4.11-H-1st from the left side. Athletic player. On the mound he was 76-79 from a short, quick ¾ arm delivery. Very competitive approach. Curveball was 69-70 with sharp, late break, just missed bats. From the outfield his arm was long and easy and throws were on target. He has average hands, fluid feet and a clean transfer. At the plate his stride is short and effortless with average bat speed, line drive type hitter. Plays hard. 

Matt Gorski, MIF, Hamilton SE, 2016: 6 foot 4 inches/ 180 pounds, 4.50-H-1st. Athletic with a long ¾ arm that is on target with carry. Average hands and feet with plus actions. Hits from a balanced stance with a slight top hand wrap. Short stride with average bat speed and long path to the ball.  

Josh Hart, OF/3B, Center Grove HS, 2015: 6 foot 1 inch/ 198 pounds,4.43-H-1st, Athletic with a plus arm. Throws always on target with carry. Average hands with good feet and good actions. Hits from a athletic stance and a short stride, drops his hands to load and generate good bat speed.

Duncan Hewitt, C, Lawrence North HS, 2016: 6 foot 2 inches/ 190 pounds, 4.70-H-1st, 2.16 – 2.22 pop time. Athletic catcher, works hard behind the plate and has a good feel for his position.  Short ¾ arm, throws are on target. Receives well. Hits from a balances stance with a easy, short stride, fast hands that extend through contact. 

Dave Inman, RHP/SS/3B, West Vigo HS, 2015: 6 foot/ 175 pounds, 4.59-H=1st, Strong, athletic and likes to compete. Has a slight hop in his pitching delivery. Short, quick arm that works, fastball is 84-86 with heavy sink, could drop down and throw it 81. Late breaking curveball is 72 mph. Fileds his position. Defensively he plays hard, has soft hands and quick feet. The bat has some pop, ball explodes at contact.

Aaron McGee, 1B/OF, Hamilton SE HS, 2015;  6 foot 1 inch/ 210 pounds, 4.91-H-1st, L/L, Long arm from the Outfield. Average Hands and feet.  Athletic set up at the plate, short stride with a buggy whip type swing. Gap to gap hitter.

Dax McLochlin, 3b/RHP, Noblesville HS, 2015: 6 foot 2 inches/ 180 pounds, 4.56-H-1st, Fastball was 80-81, with a long ¾ arm delivery. Curveball was 72-76 with life and in the zone. Defensively he has soft hands, throws across the infield have carry.  He hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and a fast bat. Projectable player. 

Will Plumer. LHP, Noblesville HS, 20156 foot/ 170 pounds, Athletic pitcher that wont over power hitters but he will get guys out. Fastball is 73-75 with depth, curveball is 63-67 with gradual break and his change sat at 68 with sink. He has a long ¾ arm delivery, fills up the strike zone and fields his position well. 

Justin Reed, RHP, Lawrence North HS, 2016;  5 foot 11 inches/ 175 pounds. Confident young pitcher.  Strong and athletic. He Works from a quick and loose ¾ arm delivery. Fastball is 84-86 with downhill plain. Change up is 77 mph with sink. He works fast and fills up the strike zone.

Caleb Sampen,RHP/SS, Brownsburg HS, 2015: 6 foot 2 inches/ 170 pounds,4.50-H-1st, Athletic and lanky RHP with a quick, loose, ¾ arm delivery. Fastball was 87-88 with downward plain; Slider was 73-75 with late break. He threw both pitches for strikes. Very projectable, I ranked him the 4th best player at this camp. He has instincts and with average hands and feet. The bat is serviceable. Future will be on the mound.

Isaiah Shake, OF, Bloomington South HS, 2016: 6 foot/ 175 pounds, Threw 81 from the outfield with a long easy ¾ arm slot. Throws were on target. He has average hands, fluid feet and a good ball transfer. Athletic hitter that generates fast bat speed, pull power type hitter.

Michael Veatch, C, North Central HS, 2015: 6 foot 1 inch/ 185 pounds, 4.72-H-1st, 2.09-2.14 pop time. Short ¾ arm thrower always on target with average hands. With the bat he has a slight top hand wrap with a long stride and path to the ball.
