By Phil Wade

Director, PBR Indiana

Angel FigueroaBishop Noll's Angel Figueroa recently committed to Black Hawk College.  He is a 5-foot-8, 170-pound athlete with the ability to play multiple positions.  He has attended multiple PBR events throughout his HS career.

In the infield he possesses smooth actions with a quick, clean exchange and some arm strength at 78 mph.

Figueroa also has the ability to catch.  His pop times are consistently between 2.01-2.24 with solid catch and release skills.  At the plate he starts from an open stance with a leg kick.  Figueroa possesses some gap to gap power from a short swing.

Below Figueroa discusses his commitment to Black Hawk:

PBR: Why did you choose Black Hawk?

Figueroa: I choose Black Hawk because as soon as I stepped on campus it felt like home. Coach Chavera is my type of coach; very passionate and full of energy. The facilities are great and even though it is a JUCO it has a big college atmosphere.

PBR: Where did Black Hawk first see you compete?

Figueroa: Coach Chavera first saw me at the Area Code tryouts in June, and then coach Dallas Burk saw me at the PBR Unsigned Senior event this past October at the Max.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Figueroa: I also was considering Temple University, Roosevelt University, Brunswick CC, Madison CC and Kellogg CC, but I knew right away that Black Hawk was the right fit for me.

PBR: What do the coaches expect of you when you first arrive on campus?

Figueroa: The coaches want me to come in and work hard and play SS from the time I step on campus in the fall and to help them make it to the JCC world series.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer, and how have they impacted you as a baseball player?

Figueroa: I played for the Chicago White Sox Ace team for the past 5 years and they have been a big part of my development as a baseball player and how to carry myself off the field. Coach Kevin Cole, Coach Fletcher and Coach Guerrero have helped me all of those years to become the player that I am today.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Figueroa: The person that has had the biggest impact on me as a player has been my dad. He put a bat in my hands when I was 2 and I haven’t stopped playing since. He has taught me how to play the game the right way with passion and determination and how to carry myself on and off the field as well as how to be a leader.

PBR: What are you goals heading into the off-season?

Figueroa: My goals in this off season are to continue to work hard and to get stronger, faster and work on my hitting. I can’t get enough of that.

PBR: What are your goals both personally and as a team next spring?

Figueroa: My goals personally are to be a leader on my team and come through when I’m needed. I want to help my team get past the regionals which we have failed to do the past 3 years I have been there. We lost our top 3 pitchers so that means we are going to need some guys to step up. The goal is to win sectionals, regionals than see how far we can go.

PBR: What is your fondest memory as a baseball player to date?

Figueroa: My fondest moment was this past summer when I played in the St. Louis Cardinals Bush stadium in the RBI regional championship game and helped my summer team, the White Sox Ace, win the championship. That experience was unbelievable!
