Q&A with 2015 Wabash Valley Commit; Bailey Montgomery

Vincennes High School middle-infielder Bailey Montgomery recently committed to Wabash Valley College and Head Coach Rob Fournier. Below, Bailey talks about his choice.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Wabash Valley?

Montgomery: Ultimately, I chose Wabash Valley because they have a great program, and I can develop my game over the next two years and hopefully move on to a division 1 program. The coaching staff at WVC is great, and I look forward to getting on campus and getting to work.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you compete?

Montgomery: Coach Scott saw me play in Cincinnati during the Cincy Flames tournament this July. I also attended their camp last fall.

PBR: When did you take your first official visit to Wabash Valley?

Montgomery: I took my first visit to Wabash Valley early in August.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play once you arrive on campus?

Montgomery: Coach Fournier expects me to improve defensively, and to continue improving. He expects me to come in and compete, and I hope to earn some time as a freshman.

PBR: Were there any other schools you were considering?

Montgomery: I have talked to many other schools, but the biggest one I was considering was IPFW.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer, and how has playing for them impacted your baseball career?

Montgomery: I played for the Indiana Nitro this summer, and it was a great experience. I got to play great competition in front of numerous scouts, and that opened many doors for me as a baseball player.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Montgomery: The person that has had the biggest impact on my career would have to be my dad. He coaches me from pitching machine all the way up until high school ball, and I give all the credit to him. He introduced me to the sport, and has helped me to get where I am today.

PBR: Heading into your final season as a HS player, what are your goals both personally and as team?

Montgomery: Going into my final year, my only goal is to win. I want to take on a leadership role, and do everything I can to help take our team to the next level. I believe that we can win the sectional and go deep into the state tournament this year.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you've faced in Indiana?

Montgomery: The toughest pitcher that I have faced is Cody Mobley. Cody is a guy who I have played travel with, and I always look forward to stepping in the box against him. He can run his fastball up around the 90 mph area, and he has great out pitches to go with it. Cody is a kid who will make a great impact at UE next year.

PBR: What is your most memorable moment as a baseball player to date?

Montgomery: My favorite baseball memory is playing in the Cal Ripken World Series. The World Series allowed me to play against some of the best competition in the country, and well as make new friends who have excelled at high levels.
