Prep Baseball Report

Q & A with Bellarmine Commit, Andrew Hunt

By Phil Wade
Director of Operations, PBR Indiana

We recently had the opportunity to ask Providence High School LHP, Andrew Hunt, some questions regarding his recent commitment to Bellarmine University and his upcoming senior season.

PBR: Why did you choose Bellarmine University?

Hunt: I chose Bellarmine University because of its strong academic reputation and I felt very comfortable with the campus and its surroundings.  When I took my visit it just felt like the best place for me.  Coach Tyner is really taking the baseball program in a good direction and I want to contribute and be a part of its success.

PBR: Where did Bellarmine first see you compete?

Hunt: Bellarmine Assistant Coach Torhmeleon first saw me two years ago at a summer tournament in Indianapolis and stayed in touch with me ever since.

PBR: What other schools did you consider?

Hunt: I was also considering Belmont University and Lee University, but I felt Bellarmine was the best overall fit for me.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Hunt: With 6 pitchers graduating the Coaches expect me to come in a compete for significant time on the mound.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Hunt: My family and their support, especially my Mom and Dad for attending and traveling to all my games during the summer and high school seasons.  My High School Coach Scott Hornung was very helpful during the recruiting process and helped me become a better baseball player.  Mark Peters, the Chairman of the IXL Ironman Organization really supported me and helped me during the recruiting process and got me the exposure I needed during the past four years playing for the Ironman and Indiana Prospects Organizations.  Coach Woolwine, Coach Lasche, and Coach Natterman were great to play for during the summer and taught me a lot about the game.

PBR: Heading into your senior year at Providence what are your goals individually and as a team?

Hunt: My goals for the season are to work hard and always do my best to help us win games whether pitching, hitting or playing the field.  I think we can go deep into the state tournament as we are more experienced this season and everybody has the same common goals of being at our best when tournament time begins.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Hunt: I want to improve upon working ahead in the count to utilize my off speed pitches more effectively.

PBR: Have you decided on a major, or narrowed it down?

Hunt: I am going to major in Business with a focus on Marketing and Entrepreneurship

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and how has playing for them helped you as a baseball player?

Hunt: I played for the IXL Ironman organization based in Louisville/Southern Indiana this past summer and for the Indiana Prospects the three years prior.  Both AAU teams helped me become a much better player and exposed me to a lot of college coaches.  The competition level in the summer months was excellent and really showed me that to be successful at those levels that it was all about hard work and effort.
