Coach Matt Weston and the Mustangs of Kouts High School will open the 2013 season looking to improve on an up and down season in 2012. The Mustangs finished 12-12 overall while struggling in the Porter County Conference with a 2-5 record. Coach Weston returns four starters and four pitchers.
One of the top returning Mustangs is junior catcher Jake Moore. Moore batted .385 and knocked in 25 runs while earning Honorable Mention All-State in Class A. Another junior standout is Max Everaert. Everaert is a junior shortstop and the top returning pitcher. He led the team with a 2.84 ERA and 72 punch outs in route to a 5-5 record. At the plate Everaert batted .405.
Other players expected to make an impact for the Mustangs in 2013 are shortstop Andrew Birky (2013), and centerfielder Jake Bekelya (2014).
A tough road lies ahead of Coach Weston and the Kouts Mustangs in the Porter County Conference with defending champion Hanover Central, Boone Grove, and Morgan Township all on the schedule.
