By Phil Wade
Director, PBR Indiana
Jake Sprinkle, a 6-foot, 200 pound RHP from Franklin Central HS, recently committed to the University of Indianapolis. The No. 42 ranked prospect in Indiana's 2014 class was up to 88 mph with his fastball this past June at the Top Prospect Games and flashed a 74-75 mph breaking ball with depth.
Sprinkle discusses his commitment to UIndy below:
PBR: Why did you choose UIndy?
I chose UIndy because I really like the facilities, the coaches, and the academic opportunities they offer.
PBR: Where did UIndy first see you compete?
UIndy first saw me compete in the high school spring season.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
I was also considering Kentucky Wesleyan and Danville CC.
PBR: What do the coaches expect of you when you first arrive on campus?
The coaches expect me to come in, work hard, get better, and fight for a spot in the rotation.
PBR: You played at the Top Prospect Games last summer, describe that experience.
The Top Prospect Games was an amazing experience. It was great to compete against the best kids in the state of Indiana in front of a ton of college coaches. It was also awesome to get to see and play at IU's brand new facility.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
My whole family has had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. They always push me to be the best person and baseball player that I can possibly be. They also supported me in every decision I have made.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer, and how has playing with them impacted you as a baseball player?
I played for the Indiana Eagles the past 3 summers. They put me up against some of the top talent in the Midwest. This helped me develop as a player.
PBR: What are your goals personally this off-season?
My personal goals for this off-season are to get stronger, get in better shape, and work on my off speed pitches.
PBR: What are your goals personally and as team next spring?
My personal goals are to improve all of my numbers from last year and contribute to the team as much as I can. Our team goals are to win the Marion County Tournament for the second year in a row and make a deep run in the postseason.
PBR: What is your fondest baseball memory to date?
My fondest baseball memory would have to be striking out the final batter in the Marion County Championship game against North Central. It was an awesome feeling to be able to dog pile and celebrate with the whole team.
