Inside the Recruitment: 2018 RHP Luke Albright Commits to Kent State

By Phil Wade
Indiana Executive Director

Fishers High School 2018 right-hander Luke Albright recently committed to Kent State. The 6-foot-3, 210 pounder is ranked No. 7 in Indiana's 2018 class.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose to commit to Kent State?

Albright: One of the main reasons I chose Kent State is because of their pitching coach, Mike Birkbeck. In addition, Kent State offers me everything I was looking for in a college. Overall, it was the best fit for me.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Albright: They first saw me pitch during a tournament at Ball State last summer.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Albright: Kentucky, Missouri, and Michigan were my other top choices.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Albright: I expected it to be more difficult than it was. I learned as much as I could about each school, both the baseball program and academics. I found the process to be lengthy, very informative, and a great experience overall.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career after HS?

Albright: I was looking for a very strong coaching staff that would help me in my development as a pitcher.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you?  Was there a particular game or event you feel turned the corner for you?

Albright: It heated up for me after pitching in Atlanta in July of this past summer and even further after the Futures Games in August.

PBR: At what point did you realize you were a college caliber player and become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Albright: I've had aspirations of playing college baseball since I was a young lad. I realized this possibility after the first PBR showcase I participated in the summer after my freshmen year. I received interest from colleges after that event.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in Indiana, and why?

Albright: The best player I've faced was Milo Beam from Westfield. He got a couple hits against me.

PBR: What advice would you give young baseball players striving to get where you are at?

Albright: I would tell them to develop a strong work ethic in their training and preparation. The more effort you put into the game, the more reward you'll see.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Albright: The most memorable moments would be pitching in the two sectional games of my sophomore season.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us.  How do you feel your team will be?  What are your expectations and goals?

Albright: I have high expectations for our team this year, as we have a very strong senior class and pitching rotation. My goal is that we win the state championship this season.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?  What has been your most memorable experience with them?

Albright: I play for the Indiana Mustangs. My most memorable experience with the Mustangs was in Atlanta this past summer, as I pitched my two best games there.
