Inside the Recruitment: 2017 RHP Kadin Abegg Commits to Marian

New Prairie HS right-hander Kadin Abegg recently committed to Marian University.   

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose to commit to Marian?

Abegg: I decided to choose Marian because it fit my life style and the campus is beautiful.  

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Abegg: They never actually saw me play. My high school coach told me about them because that's where he played at.   

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Abegg: Goshen College, Sienna Heights, Saint Francis, and Huntington University. 

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Abegg: I expected it to be a different experience. Going through it wasn't easy and it wasn't too hard. It was very stressful. I wanted a school that fit me and I couldn't find one until I visited Marian.  

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career after HS?

Abegg: I wanted to go somewhere where I could contribute right away. I wanted to attend a school where they had spots open that I could fill. 

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you?  Was there a particular game or event you feel turned the corner for you?

Abegg: It really took off during the middle of summer ball. I started to pitch very well against very good teams and started to get noticed. A kid from a small town and with my build, I didn't get much interest.  

PBR: At what point did you realize you were a college caliber player and become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Abegg: My junior year in high school when I became the ace after only playing JV. I realized my hard work was paying off. 

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in Indiana, and why?

Abegg:  I don't really pay attention to that stuff. I go out there and focus on each pitch. I don't look at who is in the batters box. 

PBR: What advice would you give young baseball players striving to get where you are at?

Abegg: I would say start young. It doesn't matter that you aren't the best player when you're in little league. The hard work isn't seen by those going with the hype. It is only seen by you. Hold your self accountable and do the little things right. 

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Abegg: The biggest memory has to be going to state 5 years running in little league through majors. It has brought me closer to my teammates and has given me the chance to see what real baseball was at such a young age.  

PBR: Preview your high school season for us.  How do you feel your team will be?  What are your expectations and goals?

Abegg: As a team I feel we can make a run especially if we get hot at the right time. We have very good pitching and defense. As long as we put up runs I believe we have a shot. I am looking for a sectional championship and a run in regionals.  

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?  What has been your most memorable experience with them?  

Abegg: I played for Triple Crown this past summer. There were some teammates that I played with my junior summer that I really connected with. Spending those weekend nights in hotels doing 2K tournaments are my favorite memories with them.
