2016 OF Mitchell Garrity Chooses Purdue

Mitchell GarrityMitchell Garrity, a 2016 outfielder from Perry Meridian High School ranked No. 28 in Indiana's class of 2016 rankings, committed to Purdue and Head Coach Doug Schreiber late last week. Garrity, a member of Team Indiana at this year's Future Games, in an athletic left-handed outfielder with a strong arm (88 mph from the OF), speed (6.81 60) and athleticism. Offensively he possesses a quick bat and good plate awareness.  He has the ability to drive the gaps and hit for average.  At the Future Games workout he registered an exit velo of 91 mph.  

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Purdue? 

Garrity: I chose Purdue because it offered everything I was looking for in a college experience.  I admire and respect the baseball program and the coaching staff.  I also am looking for to receiving a great education in my time at Purdue. 

PBR: Where did Purdue first see you compete? 

Garrity: My first outing that Purdue attended was at Grand Park this past summer.    

PBR: When did you take your first visit to Purdue? 

Garrity: My first visit to Purdue was September 7th. 

PBR; What role do the coaches expect you to play when you first arrive on campus? 

Garrity: Coaches expect me to compete for an outfield position.  They also want me to contribute from time to time on the mound. 

PBR: Were there any other schools you were considering? 

Garrity: I was considering a multitude of schools across the country but ultimately felt that Purdue was the right fit for me. 

PBR: You played for Team Indiana at this year's Future Games, describe your experience participating in that event. 

Garrity: Playing for Team Indiana is this year's Future Games was a huge honor.  I enjoyed playing with the top players in the state and facing top notch competition.  It was a great opportunity to play in front of many college coaches each game. 

PBR: You play for the Indiana Bulls in the summer, how has playing for them impacted you as a baseball player? 

Garrity: Playing for the Bulls organization allows me to surround myself with players that work hard and value the game as much as I do. The Bulls also provided me the opportunity to play in front of many college coaches every week. 

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player? 

Garrity: As a baseball player, my father has had the biggest impact on me by spending countless hours in the cages and on the field helping me improve as a player.  I'm also fortunate enough to have an outstanding high school coach, John Carpenter. 

PBR: Now that you've committed, what are your goals going forward as a high school baseball player? 

Garrity: My goals as I move forward are to continue to improve at playing the game and win a high school sectional. 

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you've faced in Indiana? 

Garrity: Ashe Russell, I was fortunate enough to go 2 for 3 against him last May. 

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball memory to date? 

Garrity: Hitting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning in last year’s spring season against North Central with my brother on base, and also, making a run to the championship game during the 2013 WWBA National Championship in East Cobb.  

PBR: What were your stats last season at Perry Meridian? 

Garrity: I hit .415.
