2014 Team Preview: South Putnam High School

As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

The South Putnam Eagles are coming off a down year in 2013 where they finished 4-19 overall.  The 2014 season will be a rebuilding year as only three seniors return.  A bright spot from last season is several underclassmen gained valuable varsity level experience.  Head Coach Zack Love's squad returns six starters and 3 three pitchers this spring.  The Eagles will be led offensively by senior C/RHP Tyler Long. Long, a Bethel Collegel commit, led the Eagles in BA, HR, and RBI last spring and earned All-Conference and All-County honors. Senior's Joe Waters and Wyatt Nees should also contribute offensively. Waters was third in OBP as a junior last year while Nees led the team in doubles in 2013. Coach Love will also count on sophomores Brandon Gierke, a move in from Greencastle HS, and Grady McHugh, who led the Eagles in runs scored as a freshman last season.  The South Putnam Eagles will have to compete with Cloverdale, North Putnam, and Greecastle  for a West Central Conference Championship this spring.
