As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:  

The 2014 Woodmen baseball squad is in a bit of a rebuilding mode after losing a talented nucleus of seniors from the 2013 team.  Key losses include All-State OF Alex Krupa (Iowa Western/19th Rd. Draft Pick of the Reds), OF Connor Beidelman, and RHP's Landon Fink and Tylor Martin (Danville Area CC). Coach Bass will lean on seniors Mitch Caster and Marty Underwood to help guide an inexperienced Woodmen squad this spring. A key concern is the offense heading into the season.  Top returning hitters in 2014 include Mitch Caster (.291 BA, 17 RBI, 7 2B) and Reid Werner (.290 BA, 9 RBI). Greenwood does return four pitchers from last year in Caster, Sam Orem, Underwood, and Werner. Caster finished last season with 26 IP, finishing 3-3 with 34 Ks.  The other three returning arms totaled a combined 28.3 IP in 2013.
