Climbing
The top four from last week remains unchanged, as Mount Carmel and St. Rita split their annual grudge match this week, with the Mustangs winning on Wednesday and Mt. Carmel coming back on Saturday 5-4 behind a complete game effort from senior righthander Nelson Munoz.
At 26-1-1 Rockford Boylan moves into the top five for the first time this season. Joliet Catholic rises from 9 to 6, and is currently on an eight game winning streak. Alton remains at No. 7, with streaking Brother Rice moving up into the top ten at No. 8. The Crusaders have won seven of nine, with the only losses being 1-0 to No. 25 St. Laurence, and 7-6 to No. 3 St. Rita in CCL-Blue play. Lincoln-Way West and Champaign Central round out the top ten, with both leading their respective conferences going into the last week of the regular season.
No. 12 Downers Grove South rises from No. 21 and is currently on a 13 game winning streak. St. Charles North has a 12-game winning streak of their own, as the North Stars rise to No. 13 from No. 24. Cary-Grove makes an appearance in the Power 25 at No. 17 thanks to last week’s sweep of rival Crystal Lake South. The Trojans are winners of 17 straight, recently capturing at least a share of the Fox Valley-Valley conference championship.
No. 22 Glenbrook North was recently crowned champions of the CSL-North and sit at 24-5 overall, currently on an eight game winning streak.
Sinking
Lincoln-Way West dropped a game last week to conference rival and early preseason Class 4A favorite Lincoln-Way North. The Phoenix, winners of four straight, may be getting hot at just the right time and currently sit at 21-9-1. Metamora drops from No. 10 to No. 18, after dropping a shootout 15-11 with Normal University High.
