Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Jack Marshall
December 1, 2016
Graduating Class: 2017
Position: RHP
School: Kaneland
Height: 5-11
Weight: 165
The Outlook: Marshall is still relatively new to pitching and the Prep Baseball Report staff got a glimpse of him at the Unsigned Senior Showcase this past October. It was the first time we had seen him since 2015 and what followed was Marshall making a big jump in velocity and entering into the Top 100 of the 2017 rankings for the first time. Marshall, who features a fastball in the upper 80's, has a long, loose, quick arm action and a high upside. The off-speed offerings still have some room for improvement but the fastball is live and jumps out of the hand.
Scouting Report: 10/9/16 - 5-foot-11, 165-pound, lean, athletically built right-handed pitcher. Smooth, rhythmic, tall and fall delivery, balanced throughout, stays on-line, lands square and finishes athletically. Long, quick arm out of a high ¾ window. Fastball flashed sinking action and occasional life, thrown for strikes, sat 86-87 mph, touching 88. Curveball was best secondary offering on this day, 11/5 shape and sharp action, 70-74 mph. Slider sat 73-77 mph, inconsistent shape. Changeup featured cut and sink action, 75-78 mph.
