Unsigned Senior Showcase: Stats Posted

The Unsigned Senior Showcase took place on Sunday January 24th, at The MAX in McCook, IL. The open event was the last Unsigned Senior Showcase for 2016 graduates and 76 seniors participated. Over 40 college coaches came out to scout the action.  

The event featured players from all over the state of Illinois and a few from Wisconsin. Although Wisconsin did not make up the majority of the players at the event, the ones who were there, made their presence felt. Two RHP’s from Wisconsin worth noting were Anthony Laughlin (Gibraltar HS, WI) and Jon-Anthony Caban (St. Thomas More HS, WI). Laughlin is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound physical right-hander who touched 86 on the warmup mound and sat 84-85 mph during his bullpen. Laughlin flashed quick arm and a firm breaking ball that he throws with conviction. Caban is another physical frame coming in at 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds. He sat 84-85 mph with a loose arm action during his bullpen.

Illinois had a couple of arms worth mentioning as well. Noah Dressler (Mascoutah HS) is a long and lean right-handed pitcher who sat an easy 83-85 mph and showed feel for three pitches. 6-foot-2, 160-pound RHP Jackson Fischer (Westmont HS) was also long and lean and touched 84 mph with his fastball. RHP Neftali Reyes (Roberto Clemente HS) fastball sat 81-83 mph with easy effort and life.

MIF Malik Coupet (Homewood-Flossmoor HS) ran a 6.85 60, showed a quick, compact swing at the plate and actions on the infield.

1B Ricky West (Homestead HS, WI) is a right-handed hitter who registered a 92 mph exit velocity and was 84 mph across the infield.

C Jett Wedekind (Princeton HS) showed a big arm from the crouch, 80 mph. Also, ran a 7.14 and registered an 87 mph exit velocity.

SS/3B Zach Fick (St. Charles North HS) flashed bat speed and a 92 mph exit velocity and showed enough arm strength to play the left side of the infield as his throws were clocked at 84 mph.
