Nearly two weeks after it was publicly announced that RHP Jake Godfrey would no longer be attending Notre Dame next fall, the hard-throwing Providence Catholic senior has picked another school. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Godfrey verbally committed to LSU on Monday.
Godfrey is the No. 1 overall 2014 prospect in the Prep Baseball Report’s 10-state coverage area and is ranked 41st in the National Top 50, released in November. He has the ability to pitch his way into the first three rounds of the draft this spring. If games are ever played in the Chicagoland area this spring, Godfrey will be one of the most heavily scrutinized prospects in the Midwest.
Godfrey marks the third top-10 prospect in Illinois’ 2014 class to pick LSU, joining Lemont’s standout duo, LHP Jake Latz and C Mike Papierski.
